Damned Pervert Priests - and other assorted Holy Scumbags

Several survivors of child sex abuse at the hands of Catholic clergy have spoken out against the Archbishop Eamon Martin, primate of All Ireland, after he invited a top American Cardinal Timothy Dolan - criticised for his handling of child sex abuse allegations - to celebrate a special anniversary Mass in Armagh at the weekend.

Also present at the special Mass on Sunday was Archbishop Martin's predecessor as primate of all-Ireland, Cardinal Sean Brady, who has faced significant criticism over his handling of child sex abuse allegations.

In 2010, Cardinal Brady denied accusations of a "cover up" when it became known he attended meetings in the 1970s where two abused teenagers signed vows of silence over complaints against the notorious sex offender Fr Brendan Smyth, who was jailed in 1990s for child abuse.

Cardinal Dolan, meanwhile, was reported by the New York Times around a decade ago to have requested permission to move almost $57million into a cemetery trust fund in order to protect Church assets amid demands from victims of sex abuse for compensation.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Mr Faloon described the invite to Cardinal Dolan as a "two-fingered salute to survivors of sex abuse and child rape in the Catholic Church".

He continued: "I was raped by Finnegan around once a week, every week, for seven years. I was raped at least 350 times. It affects us every minute of our lives, every minute of every day.

"What I am calling for is that he [Archbishop Martin] has to resign. I'm not asking him to resign, I'm telling him he has to resign.

"Think of it this way, McAreavey resigned in 2018 one day after it was put out what he did not do [with regards to Fr Finnegan].

This is all so disturbing. I do hope Martin does resign.

It would also not be good if they were to try and justify their actions. Nothing should be able to justify what they did.

Archdiocese's lawyers make millions as hundreds of sex abuse survivors haven't seen any money

As hundreds of sexual abuse survivors keep waiting for years to see any money from a bankrupt New Orleans Archdiocese, new court filings show the church is paying $25 million to lawyers and consultants in federal bankruptcy court.

That includes $13 million and counting to the church’s own bankruptcy lawyers and accountants, who have fought at every turn to justify the church’s need for protection from creditors and to keep details of clergy abuse from being released to the public.

Jones Walker attorneys Mark Mintz and Dirk Wegmann were charging $400 and $300 an hour for their services until June 1. Those fees just went up last month to $490 and $400 an hour, respectively, and associates Samantha Oppenheim and Caroline McCaffrey’s rates went up from $250 to $300 an hour, according to court records filed this week.

“They're the only ones who have been paid throughout this entire process, $25 million later,” said James Adams, a former member of the Catholic Community Foundation board who claims he was abused by a priest when he was 10. He served on the unsecured creditors’ committee until last year.

“We have members of our constituency that we're advocating for who are living on $900 a month, who are struggling,” Adams said. They're not only struggling with the effects of the abuse, they're struggling through these difficult economic times. They want justice for what happened to them. And then we see the lawyers for the archdiocese getting paid these exorbitant fees.”

The archdiocese filed for federal bankruptcy protection in May 2020 amid a deluge of sexual abuse claims against more than 70 former archdiocesan priests and other church employees. Filing for bankruptcy immediately stopped dozens of abuse lawsuits from moving forward.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The Archdiocese wants to sell these New Orleans properties to help pay sex abuse claims

The Archdiocese of New Orleans is seeking bankruptcy court approval to put several New Orleans properties on the market, part of a plan to settle potentially hundreds of claims of child sex abuse as it seeks to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The seven properties and four vacant lots, if sold at their asking prices, would generate some $10.4 million.

Below are the properties that are pending approval and their asking prices.

St. Jude Community Center - $1.95 million.

Catholic Bookstore - $1 million.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church - $2.275 million

Bishop Perry Community Center - $1.95 million.

The St. Jude Community Center and the Catholic Bookstore currently house establishments.

The other properties on the market — the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and the Bishop Perry Community Center — remain vacant or empty.

Along with the properties, the archdiocese is looking to sell one lot next to the Catholic Bookstore and one lot next to the residency of the archbishop.

The two other lots are located on South Rampart Street, facing 1000 Howard Avenue. These lots will be listed for $3.2 million.

If only the Catholic Church had a good year like Taylor Swift is having with her multi-billion dollar tour, they would not have to sell their properties, but we live in a world where Taylor Swift draws more crowd and excitement than the wretched Catholic Church.

Perhaps the vatican can help them out.

After all, they protected the pedos for years.

It's probably like what Jesse Pinkman once said about Walter White, something like "Don't ever touch his money" - that's how it is with the Vatican and its money.

Or maybe god could have sent some person to earn them money and bring back sheep to churches with easiness that Taylor Swift is making money. They are a godly organization, after all, that is preparing people for Jesus's soonish second coming, and yet god (if he exists) seems more inclined toward a woman whose lifestyle is a mockery of the catechism of the RCC.

Watford church leader Mike Pilavachi 'massaged young male interns'

A church leader massaged young male interns and wrestled youths as he used his "spiritual authority to control people", an investigation has found.
The former Rev Canon Mike Pilavachi led Soul Survivor Church in Watford as well as a national Christian youth festival.
A Church of England probe found he displayed coercive and controlling behaviour at the church and had inappropriate relationships.

A report said those concerns related to conduct in his leadership and ministry, both before and after he was ordained in 2012, spanning 40 years from his time as a youth leader to the present day.
It said: "The overall substantiated concerns are described as an abuse of power relating to his ministry, and spiritual abuse; described in guidance as 'a form of emotional and psychological abuse characterised by a systematic pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour in a religious context'.
"It was concluded that he used his spiritual authority to control people and that his coercive and controlling behaviour led to inappropriate relationships, the physical wrestling of youths and massaging of young male interns."

Switzerland: Hundreds of sex abuse cases 'tip of the iceberg', say researchers

An official inquiry into the Roman Catholic Church in Switzerland has identified nearly 1,000 cases of sexual abuse since 1950.

Many involved children and 56% of the victims were male, the report said. The vast majority of the accused were men.

Researchers from the University of Zurich also found evidence of a "widespread cover up".

"The cases we identified are without a doubt only the tip of the iceberg," said the study's leads.

A further 30% of abuse was found to have been committed in institutions including Catholic children's homes, day schools and boarding schools.

As well as documenting instances of sexual abuse, the researchers also looked at how Church officials dealt with these cases and said many were "kept secret, covered up or trivialised".

Their report criticised various officials, including bishops, for not doing more to help those affected.

Clerics accused of committing abuse were found to have been "systemically" reassigned to other posts by those in positions of power, sometimes abroad, to avoid being prosecuted.

"In doing so, the interests of the Catholic Church and its dignitaries were given precedence over the welfare and safety of parishioners."

One of Australia’s most powerful Catholic figures likely sexually assaulted four youths, Vatican report alleges

The bombshell 200-page report also found 73-year-old Christopher Saunders spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in church and charity funds grooming the young men.

The report was completed in April and sent to Rome – yet six months on, no decision has been made on his future.

Only a pope can appoint a bishop – and only a pope can defrock one.

“The Bishop has been variously described by witnesses as… a sexual predator that seeks to prey upon vulnerable Aboriginal men and boys,” the report states.

“During the investigation, four victims of sexual (delictual) acts were identified.”

“Sixty-seven additional Aboriginal boys and men were also identified as persons that may have been subjected to delictual acts or grooming behaviours by Bishop Saunders.”

It found he was spending up to $4000 a month on alcohol for the youths.

Saunders is also alleged to have had five bank accounts, which at one time held a total of $3 million. The safe in the chancery held $80,000 in cash.

He also collected multiple guns, bought a $70,000 boat and multiple cars.

The investigation was led by two former WA Police detectives with 60 years of service between them. They identified a total of 102 witnesses, and 30 were formally interviewed.

One former church worker claimed Saunders funded his lifestyle with money donated from around Australia, Broome’s local op shops and even from the Sunday service collection plates. The money was meant to go to indigenous charitable causes.

The report also reveals Saunders used the church plane to transport alcohol to dry Aboriginal communities around the vast 770,000 square kilometre diocese.

The report also found that many members of the church community who stood up to Saunders over the years “have either lost their jobs, lost their faith, or suffered both psychological and reputational damage.”

A statue of late cardinal accused of abuse removed from outside a German cathedral

The accusations against Cardinal Franz Hengsbach, who died in 1991, added to a long-running scandal over abuse by clergy that has shaken the German church.

Last week, the Essen diocese said there were suspicions that Hengsbach may have abused a 16-year-old girl in the 1950s when he was an auxiliary bishop in nearby Paderborn, and that another person — according to German news agency dpa, also a woman — also accuses him of abusing them in 1967, when he was bishop of Essen.

In a letter to parishes released on Friday, Essen's current bishop, Franz-Josef Overbeck, apologized for his mistakes in handling the allegations.

He said he had heard about the first accusation in 2011 but did nothing after the Vatican determined that it was not plausible.

In 2018, a church-commissioned report concluded that at least 3,677 people were abused by clergy in Germany between 1946 and 2014. More than half of the victims were 13 or younger, and nearly a third served as altar boys.

“The suspected acts and the cover-up strategy of the church that has once again been documented destroy what confidence remains,” Irme Stetter-Karp said in a statement. “Once again, the impression arises that the perpetrators, and not those affected, were protected.”
