Why do you not see -this- as a role that human beings play in the ecosystem? Human beings are, in your example...improving the ecosystem, by the metrics you seem to be using for improvement. We do this intentionally and unintentionally for a variety of species. Seriously?
There would be no need for management if humans were out of the picture, they certainly are not building the platforms for the bears. Also which species is doing all the over fishing?
No means of management is more like it. Then various forms of life would simply go on impinging on one another to achieve a dynamic balance. There would still be extinction events and catastrophes to recover from, but I suspect a widely diverse biome would be better able to bounce back faster.

Here's an interesting idea. If you had the option to live forever but could opt out at any time, would there ever come a time when you'd say to yourself, "OK, I think I'm ready to die now."? If you were enjoying your existence, what would be your basis for deciding that non-existence would be better? Perhaps if you had done everything there is to do a hundred thousand times and were bored with all of it, or if you were miserable in you existence, you might choose to end it. But I do agree that if you were enjoying your immortal self, you probably wouldn't be too motivated to voluntarily end your life.

Yeah, that idea was mine. But we'll just ignore your trying to take credit for it just now
I think suicide in a futuristic world where immortality was on offer would be a very irrational thing to consider, let alone commit. Would there not be other, less final ways for you to put yourself to sleep, so to speak, waiting for a more exciting future?

I'd agree with that EP. Impersonally and neutrally. Cold agreement but yes I agree.

In the interest of making this less awkward, I got your message. We're not friends. Can we stop talking about it all over the forums now, please?

Yes I just want to be able to agree with you without feeling compared to you
Do you agree that we're nothing alike? Or at least we're very different in very crucial ways?

You can stop talking about it, but that wouldn't mean you agree to much of anything else though. Is that clear?[/sarcasm]

We do agree on a lot of things though but we're still not friends and are still very different people. I mean, our agreements on a lot of issues doesn't make us alike. Right?

I was about to say "it's not funny" because I am genuinely concerned I'll be compared to EP and I dunno if he feels the same way about being compared to me or not...
But then I laughed because it is rather funny the way you're lightening the mood like that.
No I didn't, please give me the punchline
