Luckily BG doesn't have any kids. Let's hope it stays that way.

It's one thing to have empathy for a struggling pedophile; it's another thing to even justify abuse of children.

Atheist_BG must be drunk (or I hope that's the explanation for such a post).

It seems to me like you wouldn't go to the trouble of caring for him if your friend who takes care of himself is more important to you.

I didn't understand the last sentence. Care to rephrase?

Kids are not mature enough to engage in war activities as well but that didn't stop Spartans to raise them to be fighters from an early age. And that certainly doesn't stop certain radical muslim factions to use them as suicidal weapons but nobody says anything about that, not even the media. When a 12 year old kid suicides with a bomb strapped on their chest - no reaction from society or from media. But when a pedophile fucks a kid, all the media blow out the story. Sounds like a double standard to me.

RE: Your friend tells you they're a paedophile
1) Do you keep it confidential?

a) No, tell as many people as possible
b) No, tell a select few
c) No, tell a select few but ask them to be sympathetic
d) Yes

I would most likely alert either law enforcement or a relevant child protection agency. They might act on their urges at some point, and if it comes to light that they disclosed their desires to you - you will most likely be held responsible for not telling anyone.

2) Will you still be their friend?

a) No, cut all contact
b) Yes, but distance yourself
c) Yes

3) If yes to the above, will it change the contact you allow with your children?

a) Yes, cut all contact
b) Yes, only supervised contact
c) No

4) Will you support them?

a) No, don't want to hear anything about it
b) Yes, as long as they keep it vague
c) Yes, let them say whatever they need to

I'm not touching that post... I mean I'd be glad to talk about it but if I'm not mistaken this is where our free speech ends here, as even discussing it hypothetically might sound like endorsement.

Also, I don't really care so much for the topic. Lol.

How might discussing something sound like endorsement?

Seriously?

No, I'm not touching that, lol. Besides, it doesn't concern me.

Yeah, seriously. Discussing something doesn't mean you endorse it. Who thinks that?

We'd be discussing why and whether we should prohibit kids from engaging in sexual activities whether between themselves or with adults. I do think this subject is taboo here, if I'm not mistaken, is it not? Or am I thinking about TTA?

Discussing the why's and how's of situations we find disgusting is part of regular discourse in moral/philosophical discussions.  Hell, we had a whole 50+ page thread with Drich talking about how/why certain situations are considered rape and if they should be considered rape, what consent means, if it's important, etc.
