How wide do you think this wall is supposed to be? I am sure land owners who have illegals using their land as an express way for drugs and human trafficking will be happy to be paid for maybe a 50ft wide swath that boarders mexico.

The reality of illegal immigration from mexico is a lot larger than the story you are parroting back to me from mainstream news outlets.

None of which actually addresses the point that immigrants are actually less likely to commit crime than the people you live with every day.

That's not the fault of the US though. Look, I get why lots of people want to come here, but the fact is, the only people who have a right to be here are US citizens and residents. The immigration process being slow is not a good enough reason to just abandon it completely, break the law, and come live here undocumented. It's unfair to those who have followed the system.

Oh, and as I've said earlier in the thread, this doesn't and shouldn't apply to refugees.

You might make that distinction, but the point stands that the people clamoring on about illegal immigration and are no in charge do not.

Whose fault is it when another country doesn't provide its own citizens with decent social services and economic opportunities? Of course all third-world nationals would rather live in prosperous countries with generous social services! But resources are not unlimited, even in first world countries. Every nation must take care of its own vulnerable and unfortunate citizens first. Low-skill impoverished foreign nations divert those resources away from the schools, community organizations and social services that should be attending to the needs of its most vulnerable citizens. You put the oxygen mask on yourself first before you assist others. That's basic common sense.

Sure we could increase the social safety net to include non-citizens but that also comes at the expense of other things - like foreign aid, scientific research, policing, workplace safety inspection, sanitation, national parks, space program, pensions, medical research, infrastructure, etc. Needs are unlimited.

Can you point to me where Jesus said that we should only help the poor if it doesn't inconvenience us first?

So here's Trump and his family being interviewed on 60 minutes. I haven't watched it yet, but am about to. Normally I would rather not listen to him talk, but I think this might be interesting, especially hearing what his family has to say about all this and how they can possibly defend him. Anyway, I'm hoping it's an unbiased source and that they ask him some good questions.

I think Trump realized that when you spend your entire campaign trash talking people, you aren't going to be able to get them to cooperate with you if you win.  And I think he's going to struggle with that for a VERY long time.  He's trying to fix things now, but maybe he could have fixed things a year ago and, say, not encouraged his followers to assault protesters.

Absurd in context, in any case, since having the money and jumping through the hoops -still- doesn't grant anyone a "right" to immigrate. There is no such right.
