Poll: Do you get what you pay for? Or are expensive things overpriced?
This poll is closed.
The cheaper, the better. Price is just a number.

You get what you pay for. The price of something is representative of how well-made it is.

In between. Price matters to a point, after that cutoff point it's just about status/novelty.

You get what you pay for...?

RE: You get what you pay for...?
Really depends on what you are buying. Most everyday items you can get for cheap and there's little to no difference. However when it comes to tech I feel like there are some products that you need to fork out a lot of money on.

It depends, though I would say one rarely gets more than one pays for - though you frequently get less. From my perspective, I see no value in status items, even those that I can afford.

This reminds me of an app that got banned from iTunes a long time ago.
It cost the maximum possible, which was $999.
And it did positively nothing.
It was just an icon.
It was the "look at me. I'm so rich I can afford this stupid app that does nothing"

I'm a guitarist. I like Gibson guitars for practical reasons -- they're well-built, the 24 3/4" scale sets well with my fingers, and the wiring harness on their electrics is extremely versatile.

Having said that, they're horribly overpriced, for the most part. Buy one brand-new? Not gonna happen, because at that point you're paying one hell of a lot for the logo on the headstock -- after around a thousand dollars, you're buying cachet and bling, not musical value. Three large for a new Les Paul? Ain't gonna happen. For big-ticket items, I buy used and let some other schlub take the write-off on resale. Lord knows there's enough of them around.

The guy who did it had three sales.

Worth it.

The app was named "I am Rich".

Talk about stupid rich person bait

But this poll is just useless. The options are such that only imbeciles would choose #1 or #2 over #3...

I mean seriously. Is this a circle jerk or what? I just hate this sort of confirmation bias type threads which nevertheless hide under the appearance of providing genuinely different viewpoints to be discussed.

What kind of discussion can emerge from this? You're setting this thread up for unanimous agreement and repetition of ideas. Garbage in, garbage out.

I see where you're coming from but that's not true at all. I've heard people genuinely support all three of these ideas and had good reasons for why they felt how they did.

Do you have a better idea as to how I should have worded the poll? Or are you here to add nothing to an already useless thread? If that's the case, what exactly are you trying to accomplishing by posting this reply? I mean you're free to reply as you wish, but if the thread is such a useless one, simply rate it one star and move on with your day.

Or maybe you just need a hug? Consoling

It's the off topic forum too. Not sure this is really the place to be concerned with how useful any of these threads are. Though granted some are certainly more interesting than others.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.

It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.

Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

This reminds me of when I was little and our Cocker Spaniel knocked up the neighbor's Schnauzer. The neighbor put an ad in the local paper for free puppies, but she couldn't seem to find them homes, so my mom told her to advertise them as "Schnockers" and charge $200, They were gone in a day.
