Gloating much? If I hadn't so many gay friends, I would sit back and watch how you get fucked over, how the LGBT rights, fought for over decades, go out the window on a mere whim. How a woman's right to her body is violated, as is already attempted at Poland and how an aging society that can't survive on the same standards without fresh blood, crumbles because of "keep 'em bad immigrants out".

Having no children of my own and getting on in years, it doesn't concern me much anymore, apart from being utterly disgusted. So it may well be worth a certain amount of Schadenfreude.

The left is basically done in Britain at this point.

So no, he won't be PM.

We, along with Europe, are swinging to the right.

Their conservative movement did that. Austerity is a conservative idea, investment is a liberal idea. If anyone hate one party states do know that communist CHINA's PM uses the same fucking GOP "now is not the time to tax the rich" line.

People get stuck on party and nationality, but in the end a concentration of wealth, be it a party, or family or class still amounts to a monopoly.

He said that he would live to see America's ruin and dies right after Trump was elected. Coincidence?

Think about it. The US has been trying to assassinate Castro for 50 years. If he’d been the villain they painted him to be somebody close to him would have betrayed him. You can’t win loyalty with an iron fist. Not the kind of loyalty that allows you to defy the west for half a century.

Castro drove the gamblers and graft out of Cuba. So of course the US is pissed that he died of old age rather than at their hands. By buying the propaganda, you miss the main message of his life is that the west can be defied.

I'm guessing you don't have a problem with his holding prisoners of conscience by the thousands?

Sure. Another way of looking at it is that he drove the Mafia out of Cuba because he wasn't going to get Batista's share.

The notion that this opportunistic thug was some kind of moral idealist is just nutty.

But from a purely western perspective he could have swung both ways. The west barring it's doors drove him to the Soviets. Castro fought for Castro's glory. Or at the very least, lived for Castro's glory. Maybe there was some idealism in him when he set out to fight Batista, I wouldn't know. But he could have just as well turned into Batista 2.0. There was a lot going on before he openly turned to the Soviets for support. Quite a lot, and it's anybody's guess if it would have happened in any case if the USA hadn't been as quick with their embargos.

I'm on mobile but I do remember reading an article from a political science journal about how he only chose to make his regime communist because he hated the West.

THANK YOU AND BINGO!

Which is why it sickens me to see poor Cuban Refugees make the escape only to come here and vote Republican. Most older Cubans and rightfully so condemn CASTRO but vote for Trump who is in bed with a former KGB thug a product of the communism they rightfully hate.

i have run into, not that many, but some social liberals whom have CHE as their avatar on social media, and I always find that fucking absurd considering our social media is banned in CUBA. It is railing against an open society while using the products of an open society.

CHE/CASTRO/PUTIN and Trump are all opportunists. Any CUBAN or even republican born here whom thinks Trump is a hero or cares about workers for that matter, is fooling themselves.

Yea, me too, same with Hitler, nobody should excuse either monster. But that is how these assholes rise. Take a economically desperate population, have a well speaking orator bombastic populist....BOOOOM.

If those who defend CASTRO point to free health care and free higher education as evidence of his compassion that is simply bullshit. Many of our western allies already employ health care and have cheap to free higher education, so it is possible to do those things with out having a dictator provide them.

But yea, it is as simple as preying off desperation.

Wonder if they will now tell us Castro's part in the Kennedy assassination?
