We caught it when it aired. It was interesting, and really sad to hear people's stories about leaving the church and their families. There wasn't much more information than there was in "Going Clear." However, the focus seems to be on individual's experiences. I'm sure we will hear from a lot more before the show is up.
Holy shit with the disclaimers. This network really doesn't want to get sued. But they were more interested in getting gullible idiots to pay them thousands and thousands of dollars for "auditing."
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

Tibby and I noticed the other day that there was a special coming this morning regarding Remini and her time as a Scientologist. We watched it this morning. She's also doing an series or miniseries about the Church of Scientology. On cue, the cultists are flipping out, which makes me happy. Did anyone else catch the special this morning or plan on watching the series when it airs (Tuesday, I think?)? I heard about it and wanted to watch it. I'll have to see if it's online somewhere. I think scientology is fascinating.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

They weren't idiots for thinking they could be a part of a "common good" movement. I bet average scientologist just wants to do good by preaching about soul, just in the scientology style. Yeah, from what I've read, you don't learn any of the way crazy shit about Scientology until you're in the "Operating Thetan" class of your study. Before that, you're told Scientology will help cure people's ailments using science-based pseudo-psychology. Of course, they don't say psychology, but that was ultimately what LRH was mimicking and trying to replace. Oddly, some of the procedures have some basis in psychology. Auditing sessions, apart from the weird machine they use, is somewhat Freudian. You talk about your problems again and again until they don't register as bothersome anymore. It's even a bit like exposure therapy we use today. The big differences are this stupid machine, the idea that your problems are actually alien souls that are attached to you and the practice of pushing people to reveal more to the point where they feel like they need to find some flaw in themselves, even if they're feeling great. Oh, and they record that shit to attack you with later.
It isn't until later that they tell you about Xenu and all that other crazy shit.
Very interesting. Where did you read that? Did you take out a book on it, or was it just random stuff you read online?

I've watched "Going Clear," read all of the Wikipedia articles on Xenu and Scientology, seen Leah Remini's 20/20, watched testimony of Scientologists on YouTube and most recently watched a documentary by Louis Theroux. Interestingly, I find Theroux's tactics a little annoying, but he made me laugh a lot and really worked to get under the skin of Scientologists, even those who left the church. There's a funny scene where a Scientologist is filming him on a public road, a harpy with him keeps claiming it is private, Louis walks up to him and says "Are you making a documentary too? What's your documentary about?" It's obvious he knows they are just trying to scare him, but he's so deadpan and soft spoken that I laughed out loud. I'm almost positive I've written articles about Scientology, but really I've written so many thousands now that I'm not sure if it was work research or personal research. It's not on netflix either, unfortunately. I've seen Leah's 20/20. I also saw this:
