Active Shooter Situation at Ohio State

One is not nearly the same as the other. And BTW, I'm not suggesting loving your enemies. I'm just suggesting taking the time to understand them before writing them off. Again, one is not the same as the other.

I mean case in point, look at the title of this thread. If we had taken the time to understand what was actually happening before reacting, this thread would not have the words active shooter in the title.

My bold.

To clarify then, I feel they are both one and the same. I did not mean to come off as I was differentiating between the 2. I don't see how it makes sense to be angry about something someone did without being angry at the person for doing it. Unless the person was somehow completely unconscious when they did it and had 0 control, but I take it going into this type of trance and killing people without knowing you're dong it is probably extremely rare and does not apply to this case.

I agree we should try to understand people and to still see them as human beings and treat them as human beings at all costs (this is what I consider loving your enemies), but this does not mean we can't be angry at them for a horrible thing they did, imho. I think the anger is justified.

Like I said, I have a much more difficult time being as angry with someone who does this sort of thing if for instance I come to understand that person knew they needed help, sought out that help and was repeatedly denied access to it. Doesn't mean they're any less guilty. Doesn't mean I agree with their choices or excuse their choices. But it does mean I understand how they got there. And for me, having that understanding makes it much more difficult for me to maintain the same kind of anger toward the person. That's me. Some people might find it just as easy to maintain all that anger. I'm just not one of them.

We had another similar incident to this latest attack here in Columbus either earlier this year or just late last year. Then there was the Orlando nightclub massacre, all perpetuated by radical Islamist immigrants. Yeah, may not be a bad idea to stop immigration from those countries known to harbor radical islamists until we figure out a better vetting process.

This I disagree with. I don't think Bell is more "psychotic" than someone who just tried to commit mass murder on an innocent group of people. I don't agree with Bell that the attacker's body should be disrespected, but saying Bell is more psychotic than him is just unreasonable.

Really so someone who would conceive of something that sick and demented dose not come off as equally deranged as someone who would commit said crime just because his isn't violent doesn't make it any less disturbing

Yes it is a bad idea

The night club massacre wasn't carried out by a immigrant he was born in united states

Lastly no vetting process will be better then the one in place there is no sensible reason to keep thousands of innocent people out

Hell with that. When we have Islamist radicals dedicated to killing Americans, stopping immigration from those countries is the safest bet for us here. You could, of course, move to one of those countries and spread your, cant we all get along, message over there.

Um, yeah, really. Saying a mass murderer's dead body should be cut up into pieces is in no way equivalent to going out and committing mass murder on a group of innocent young people. Rolleyes

If you honestly disagree with that, then we will just have to agree to disagree.

The Somali and Somali Bantu community in Columbus is in a state of shock. A Somali Bantu friend of mine posted:

"Why ya'll Somalis have to do something like this? Ya'll mess up your own country and drive us out, now you come mess up over here? Stabbing innocent people? Who does that? It's a crying shame, and we'll all pay for this crime, that's how it is. There are almost 40,000 Somalis and Somali Bantus in Columbus and this one fool has undone all the trust we earned."

I compulsively corrected some spelling and punctuation. She learned English in SC (partly from me) and types the way she talks. When she says 'Somalis', she means clan Somalis, as distinguished from Somali Bantus. As a side note, a random population of 40,000 Americans would contain roughly two murderers on average.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

This is factually incorrect. That shooter was born here.

That might upset your xenophobic rhetoric a little, but no doubt you'll get past it. Xenophobes usually have casual relationships with facts, anyway.

Tired of A Theist spewing his right-wing crap over the forums.

He's entitled to his opinion, and he's entitled to spew it all over AF, and I'm entitled to feel tired by it. What a load of crap, seriously.

Yeah, I think we should still let Somalian refugees come. The vast majority of them are just innocent families looking for a place to stay. I'm sure I would probably feel differently if my bro had been one of the people who got hurt, but objectively speaking, letting them in is the right thing to do regardless.

As for your last paragraph though, not to be nit picky, but it probably isn't a good comparison. Most murders that occur here are isolated events where a man kills his wife or girlfriend or something. If we're talking about murders as in people who would go out in public and start killing random strangers in mass, the number would be much smaller I am sure.
