He should be released immediately...
Anyone who starts attending church as an adult has surely suffered enough!  lol!

Jail is where God tries to hide away his mistakes. He must have run out of juice. He used to just drown them all or set their arses on fire. Now he just puts them all behind some grey walls and hopes no one notices.

There's a story in Bible where Jesus saves a whore from being stoned to death. I heard about it in Sunday class. She apparently goes on to become some big deal. Jesus believed in forgiving people's Sins if they had genuine remorse for their sins and really wanted to be better.

OP describes such a person, someone that has genuine remorse for his bad deeds and wants to live his life as good as possible, ie, someone that's found Jesus, I was questioning CL's apparent lack of empathy for that person by comparing what Jesus would've done in that kind of situation.

According to the law, the punishment for adultery was the stoning of the man AND woman, by bringing only the woman, they were in violation of the law themselves...

You are a Christian and now are the U.S. President. Do you grant this man a Presidential Pardon?

Why or why not?

no. a debt to God is not a debt to society or his fellow man.

Just to clear this up, since Min did and it was ignored, prostitution is very much a crime. It doesn't matter if you think it should be. It is.

Except society and fellow men exist - whereas your stupid fucking god is an absurd relic of the dim past, dripshit.

Only in certain counties in Nevada.

Quote:Nevada is the only U.S. jurisdiction to allow some legal prostitution. Currently eight counties in Nevada have active brothels (these are all rural counties); as of June–July 2008 there were 28 legal brothels in Nevada.

This is correct. However, I should point out that some of these "rural" counties are right next to large population centers -- usually just over the county line from places like Vegas, Reno/Sparks, and Carson City. Not all Nevada brothels are in the hinterlands, though some are.

A presidential pardon is a legal commutation of a person's sentence. If the president were aware that this person had made a change in his life that he felt was sufficient to ensure societal safety, then he is doing no wrong by releasing him early. Now, if the reason for a prison term is to punish the person for the crime committed, then there is an interesting question-- does this man's salvation through his faith in Jesus matter in the disposition of legal justice by the court?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Yes, but the power to do that can be abused. Letting a violent criminal who is serving 20 years go after only 1 year because he claims to be "saved" would be abuse of that power imho.

No. An inmate's religion should have no barring on this.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Catholic Lady,

You’re absolutely correct in that a prisoners primitive Bronze and Iron Age religious views have nothing to do with an early release.  As in this case, the person in question can only “assume” that they can gain solace in going to your 1400 square mile heaven with its 60 foot walls upon their demise by accepting your serial killer god named Jesus.

Do you look forward to your heaven where the likes of child molesters, brutal killers, rapists, and others that have committed unspeakable crimes, will be awaiting your arrival because they too were saved by Jesus while in prison? Case in point, Jeffry Dahmer, who killed 17 on his serial killing spree, accepted Jesus while in prison and was baptized.  Won’t it be wonderful when you get to meet Mr. Dahmer in heaven?  Yes?

The irony to the inept thinking pseudo-christian upon this topic, is the fact that incredible scientists like Carl Sagan, et al, are burning in the depths of Hell because of your ever loving and forgiving Jesus put them there for being Atheists, while some of the most horrific and disgusting people known in history are lounging around your heaven as we speak because they were Christians.

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

Sickening to say the least, and you want to promote this type of insidious thinking to others in the 21st century!
