They are the softest generation, that's for sure. Their lives have been soft and comfortable, made so by your generation.

You made too much sense.
These trigger warnings can sometimes be too much, but they don't mean that anyone was actually triggered by them. This is that same pool logic of finding an extreme example of something and defining an entire generation by it.
Trigger warnings can be useful. Say, "This discussion/lecture will include discussions of rape/sexual assault." Might help a rape victim prepare for or avoid the discussion. That is what they are for.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Reads more like a case of the uni being overly cautious with their warning, than the students not being able to cope, imo. The article says students are allowed to leave, but not that they actually choose to.
I mean, any one of us potentially could take a similar course, at a similar college or uni, and receive a similar warning, does the fact that we've been warned make us pussies regardless of whether we leave or not.
The whole 'participation award' bullshit was thought up by the gen x ers like me and older, not the millennials.

See, this bothers me. Millennials are being blamed for living in a world where they're spared many of the hardships that previous generations have experienced. To me, that's ridiculous. We've progressed, made living less hazardous and that's a good thing! The way millennials react to violence, bullying etc. are how we should all react to such things; it's previous generations who have the problems (including mine). You call them pussies but isn't it better that they don't experience oppression, violence, intolerance or exclusion? Of course they won't have robust coping mechanisms for such things but that's good! It's an indicator that society is becoming less oppressive, less violent, less intolerant, more inclusive. Do you want your children or grandchildren to have a tougher, more hazardous life? Because that's what you're advocating by making such statements.
This. Ben Davis nailed it.
When someone complain about consideration being shown towards others, I say their privilege is showing.

Maybe we live in different worlds, Ben, but I sure as hell don't see that.
I see the world becoming crueler and less tolerant by the day. No wonder these kids are on fucking Prozac from the time they are 6.

I think that we've become differently oppressive, intolerant, and exclusionary - and at the same time more capable in each case. I'm a millennial myself, caught the early edge of it. I think that trigger warnings are silly, but that doesn't have anything to do with what I want for my children (nor do I blame my generation for their reactions to scenes of hardships spared to them).
Personally, I'd prefer that my children turn out hard as a coffin nail no matter how soft a pillow they find themselves sleeping on. Mommy gives them the hugs, I provide a different service.
@Min - Chemically assisted apathy is pretty much a defining trait of my generation. We're pretty good at it without the drugs too, lifetime of practice.

I mean when you hear something you don't like you get up and move....right? You don't freeze up, fall on the ground and start foaming up in the mouth that's ridiculous..besides, no discussion or lecture is going to be randomly talking about rape for 40 minutes, they'll include the topic of the discussion in the title.there's no need for extra "Trigger warnings" just the thing sounds wimpy and frankly kind of pathetic that grown men and women need these kinds of "warnings" of "Triggers" what's the worst that could happen? You throw a fit and realize how ridiculous you are when everyone laughs at you? Great. Sign me up.

They've always been with us, we didn't always call them triggers. You have them too. It's just a matter of probing to find them, but, it's clear that other peoples triggers trigger you, just for starters.
Man up pussy. All you have to do is ignore the warnings like the rest of us.
