First off, the pope's holy crusaders murdered thousands and expected to get sent to heaven for it. But that isn't even the worst part of jesusism. It has a built in get-out-of-jail-free card wherein all you have to do is say "I'm sorry, pappy jesus" and he forgives any and all crimes.... except apparently blaspheming the fucking holy spirit or some such shit.
I have a scathing disrespect for any fucking religion which insists that Jeffrey Dahmer can be "saved" but Gandhi will burn in hell.

Quote:When Dahmer died, I was a staff writer for The Oklahoman. I’ll never forget talking that day with Curt Booth, a member of the Crescent Church of Christ in Oklahoma, about his role in Dahmer’s conversion.
“I know Jeffrey was ready,” Booth told me. “Today, all the angels in heaven are rejoicing because Jeffrey has come home.”
Booth said he had no doubt about the sincerity of Dahmer’s conversion.
“On the great resurrection day, I’m expecting to see him right along there with Abraham, David, Isaac, James, John and all the saints that have lived right up to the modern day,” Booth said.
Assholes.

Does the World Need Religion?

Hey P31.
I've been reading through all of you posts in this thread and have a gut feeling so I need to ask you a question. You religious view says atheist but you sound nothing like an atheist. You claim to be a new/lost atheist. You sound more like a theist that is pretending. Are you a POE? Are you participating here under false pretense?
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Lots of religious people don't commit atrocities. I think the only way to compare is to tally the numbers of holy wars and that sort of thing against other atrocities like the ones I previously mentioned, but we've already established that we can't properly do that here, so unless someone else has already accurately done it, there's not a way to know. It's called brute force of demographics Pheonix.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
Our society has progressed to the point to where we do not need religion. My reasons for this are logical to the point to where Mr.Spock would agree with me.
One:Technology progression Were at a point in human society where language barriers no longer separate the main stream country's. With google translate and other services can allow for virtually fluent communications. At this point we have a merged society that will allow us to live and thrive on the internet. If you look at world of forums like this one and the billions of others, we don't know each others names, color, and often times religious or non-religious back grounds unless we say it to others. We seem to all get a long. If we can apply this style of living to face to face interactions we stand a batter chance of getting along and phasing out religions and putting them in the history books as should of been quite a while ago. Two: The lack of religion is promoting understanding If we take a look at through the microscope, non-religious life styles are becoming popular around the world. When your remove the barrier of group associated stereotypes we can begin the process of reducing this in our society. It will never be fully eliminated but, we can try our best to keep it at bay. When unity starts to develop so does the illogical perceptions of such actions. Religions only keep these old ideas alive. The Muslim hating the Jew and the Jew hating the Muslim is a prime example of this.
The world needs religion like it needs an infected nutsack.

I don't know that a majority of people would restrain themselves from behavior which we would consider immoral if they did not think they would get caught. On a small scale, if one can lie and cheat others and get away with it, and it benefits them personally, why not? According to the biblical fairy tale God send out his evil angels to smack people upside the head. So if one of those people commits what we consider to be an evil act the person could really be doing God's will and God will reward him with good things in the after life. Jesus did say that we shouldn't resist the evil person. Matthew 5:39
