RE: Who reacted the worst when you "came out" as an Atheist?
March 22, 2017 at 9:12 am
My dad's side of the family knows, my mom's does not. My dad's side focuses on reconverting me, which makes my visits very tedious. My mom's side would freak, but my mom has passed, so I don't interact with them much anymore. I'd be surprised if any of them weren't Trump supporters, and they'd probably react worse if I had become a Muslim.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Actually, nobody. But then again, I didn't care. Anyone who won't accept me as I am is not someone I need in my life, family or no. I never "came out", I didn't bother to announce it, I just stopped believing and stopped doing all the things I did when I believed and that was that. I don't get why people need to make an announcement. Just be you. They'll figure it out.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

Exactly.
"Before you even think of judging me, spend some time getting to know me. And once you do know me, who the fuck are you to judge me?"
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

My mother and, especially, her sisters.
It's been nearly twenty years and they still try to get their little digs in.
A few years ago at a family get together they gave me a copy of the bible.
I, in turn, bought them each a copy of, "God is not great", by Hitchens.

@OP Q
If we're to believe the stories...no one throws a bigger tizzy when an atheist is born or made than the big guy himself.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

My dad is the type of person that, even if he thinks you might disagree with you he will attack with his arguments at random. I don't have to try to fight with him he just does it. I don't have the balls to get him a book like that he might actually kill me.

I'm not the sort who lets people get away with things like that.
I'm quite confrontational about it.
The last big episode was when my brother came back from Afghanistan and said he was an atheist, no longer Catholic, because of what he saw religion doing to the society over there.
Apparently, that was my fault, too.

Yeah, I tried that one. My parents pulled it out of me to fuel their reaction anyway.

I don't want to feel like I have to hide it. I want to be open and be able to post things on my facebook but I am absolutely scared of my dad and his family and how they are going to freak.
Actually, no one reacted particularly poorly now that I think about it. It was kinda awkward cause my mom still made me go to church afterward and my feelings weren't well concealed when I asked Sunday school teachers how a lion would eat grain even in an apocalypse. They all just kinda endured it. Mormons honestly are too nice, I should have been yelled at so many times.
