New study finds atheists/agnostics "the most knowledgeable" about religion.

This is no surprise at all. I as an agnostic-atheist have read the bible (twice) and have informed myself on many other major religions. Why are the followers of those religions ignorant on their own worship? Because of that: Ignorance. Religion is a cluster-fuck of ignorance.

Yea I find it rediculous that so called believers are so damn ignorant of their own religion.. It floors people when I tell them that god has given the go on child sacrifice or that moses would have been held on trial as a war criminal ranking right up there with hitler. Then most of them cant even guess the FIRST commandment.. much less list them all (10 that is ) or have any clue that there is actually hundreds of laws / rules / commandments besides the first 10.....Now im not saying ALL..... but the MAJORITY have no fraggin Idea..
Did I make a good point? thumbs up Smile I cant help it I'm a Kudos whore. P.S. Jesus is a MYTH.

I don't think that is relevant. How much do you know about a computer that you use every day ? How much do you know about how a car works, or how your own body works ? How much do you know about Buddhism or Islam ?

If you are like me, not a lot compared to anyone who spent 5 minutes actually looking it up. When we are not given a reason to study something because it is a part of our lives, well, we don't. We as atheists have to defend our beliefs because we are the minority, that is why we know more.

Did you read the whole Constitution or the Declaration of Independance ? I didn't but these are very important documents that rule our lives, isn't it strange to know so little about them ?

For those who don't know much about the Bible, I don't think that they can be considered ignorant . They are not given a reason to.

This just seems like a way for atheists to pat each other in the back and thinking "yeah we are better than THOSE guys !". I don't think this condescending attitude is to be encouraged.

The ones usually shooting their mouths off claiming to be Christian are the majority non Christian (ie atheist) ignorant bastards claiming bullshit reasoning and demanding Christians live up to their straw man religion.

Atheists don't understand religion.... period. If they did they'd be religious themselves. I have yet to meet one atheist who understands fully what belief is. This isn't true for believers - they know exactly what non belief is.

Your standard = consistently missing the point

Not something I'd aspire to. Now if you have no point to make...

Lmao fr0d0, so the majority of people who claim to be Christian are actually atheists? Who's ass hole did you pull that little gem out of?

Oh, and if you're so worried about straw men, why don't you define God and then tell us why we should believe you?

Quote:Atheists don't understand religion.... period. If they did they'd be religious themselves.

What a fucking baseless little assertion you have there sweetie. I'm sure all the atheists who once believed and now don't really just weren't true Christians in the first place right?

But since we're all so ignorant of what religion is, why don't you explain it to us all nice and slowly so we don't miss anything?

Quote: I have yet to meet one atheist who understands fully what belief is.

Belief is a word defined to mean "an opinion or conviction" regarding a proposition.

There, I fully understand what belief is Smile

Now why don't you explain what you actually meant by belief, rather than being so typically vague.

Quote: This isn't true for believers - they know exactly what non belief is.

Non belief is the absence of "a conviction or opinion" regarding a proposition.

Now can you stop using "belief" in place of what you actually mean? Because belief is a concept, and is easily understood as we all partake in it.

Justified belief is different, that's something you don't have.

Your standard = Intentionally being as vague as possible so you don't have to put all your cards on the table.

It's totally relevant. You give examples of not knowing about the computer im using, which is a fair point until you think that I don't base my whole existence on the computer im using, I dont have prejudice due to the computer im using and nobody starts wars or commits atrocities in the name of the computer im using. If people choose to follow a religion (or choose to never question the religion their parents pushed on to them), that is a big life choice that they can easily and have many opportunities to investigate and understand. It is nothing short of complete ignorance to base your life on a religion without fully understanding it, it's not like it's difficult to get hold of a bible, or koran or whatever book.
