Also a good point. When Roddenberry was shopping ToS around, CBS rejected it with the reason, 'We already have a science fiction show. We have "Lost In Space" '.

So much for judgement.

I agree with much of what she says

An 18+ minute review of a 2 1/2 minute trailer? While I didn't watch it, I'm sure she made some salient points (I've come to trust Alex's judgment on things like this). But come on - she should call it something other than a 'review'.

By the same token, I should post a review of the 'Godfather' series that runs 55 hours.

You can write a whole book about one painting by Rembrandt, which is just one frame (ergo 1/30th of a second)!

Are they really putting Star Trek behind a pay wall?
Did the idiot studio execs not learn anything from TOS?!

She makes great points.  Sadly.  The paywall is a massive, massive turn off.  That alone might kill it for a lot of fans.

Nope.

They need to build on to the history the was created with Next Generation, Voyager, and DS9.

This is just another "retro" show that is set before Kirk's time.

They tried that once before with a little show called "enterprise".

It killed the franchise for a lot of years.

I'll try to be optimistic here....
Star Trek Enterprise was before the Federation, the struggle to bring various planets and species together and build the United Federation of Planets.

Discovery is after that. It's about the expansion of the Federation. While some trouble with the Klingon is to be expected, I'm hoping to see tales of discovery, to boldly go where no man has gone before, new planets, new aliens, new challenges... possibly aliens that we already know from TNG&co, but, to the crew of the Discovery, they should be new.
I don't expect 15 episodes of war with the Klingons... that would be Ent-S03 all over again, and we all know how well that went!

Let's hope the tales of philosophy and discovery were simply not trailer material...

You know what looks even better and more like actual Star Trek is this spoof:

It looks kinda stupid, but cheese was always part of the best Star Trek TV series (ToS, TNG, even Voyager and DS9).
It probably won't last long, but I'm going to give this one a try, for sure.
