Both sound equally horrifying. hell the whole concept of life after death is about a nightmarish a concept as I can imagine . And even if heaven were pleasant I would not want to go there the price is too high . And the reward is not worth it.

lol hell. Why would Hell be any worse then heaven? I mean what do we know about Hell? That it is run by Satan who, compared to God, is actually a nice person. The only reason we know Hell is a bad place is because Jesus said it and other places in the Bible said it (like Revelation) but both Jesus and Bible are already established as liars so why believe them on description of Hell?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

IDK infinite universe infinite time to explore learn about all of it.

Quote:So many people are just bored with their everyday existences and they want to live forever?
because an infinite universe hods so much more than a day to day life can.

Quote: What do they envision that forever to be?
we are given star ships and crews and told to go where no one has gone before!

Quote:Sitting around on a cloud smiling inanely?
Or shooting up the Klingons, or sneaking past romulians, or maybe even better we are given a delorean with the task to properly record history, or God knows what. literally.

Quote:Worshiping their god ad infinitum in fear that it might change its mind and wreak its wrath upon them?
show me a NT/Christian example of this.

Quote:Do they have any concept of what forever means?  I have been around enough dying people to know there comes a time for many when the end welcomed.

And if you were in your prime and not dying forever?

The point being we (those who move on to forever) were all built for a purpose and in forever we get to do what it is we were built for. IDK if you've ever experienced anything like that here but it is beyond wonderful to have a job you absolutely love. Now imagine if that job was built for you.

Man, how do you get that huge, swollen head through doorways?

Because modern society no longer condones the idea of people burning in hell, the church today describes hell as simply eternal separation from god. Sounds good to me.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

Yeah I guess you could call it Oprahfication of Christianity, meaning everybody is going to be OK; all roads lead to heaven; God is love, therefore he would never send anyone to a place of never-ending pain - regardless of what the Bible actually says.

But there will always be tough, hard-nosed sort of Christians who are happy to talk about all the suffering and screaming of the damned. Because they know it's an effective way to scare people and get them to pay attention to Jesus's message of love and forgiveness.

By definition (presumably) heaven will NOTbe the place where they see how many red hot porcupines they can pound into your butthole.

Sure, what do you think Marcial Maciel is doing in Heaven if not stuffing all sorts of things into minors buttholes.

RE: Why do Christians want to go to Heaven?
the hugest limitation to torture on earth is the pesky tendency of humans to die just as your getting into the good stuff

in Hell, without the problem of mortality, tortures can go to what might seem to our limited intellects as ludicrous excess

fun to contemplate just how much incandescent molten gold they will be able to pump into the likes of Pat Robertson and he can't die (again) and he will suffer proportionately to the magnitude of the punishment, ain't it ?
