What is your opinion on Flat Earth theory?

RE: What is your opinion on Flat Earth theory?
I don't want to take them seriously.

Then again, I didn't want to take anti-vaxers seriously and I never wanted to take creationists seriously, either.

I know, I'm slipping into politics here, but it's no surprise that there's so much overlap between flat earthers and right wing groups; the GOP has been spreading the message that all things government are evil, meaning that NASA is lying to us and manipulating everyone.

They seriously put forward the idea that Antarctica is some kind of ice wall? What is beyond that wall, the creepy guy from Game of Thrones?

Uh, the Ice Creepy Guy, from Game of Thrones, not all the other creepy guys from Game of Thrones.

RE: What is your opinion on Flat Earth theory?
The OP seems to have been drive-by. C'est la vie I suppose.

I have to say that the flat earth movement is probably the theory/movement/conspiracy/whatever that shakes my confidence in mankind the most. Other things I can understand even though I don't agree with them. Theism? I don't buy into it, but I get it. I understand why people are inclined to want to believe in it. Plus in the case of the theists at least, its a question that cannot be answered. We can't prove the god exists nor can we prove he doesn't. So I get theism. I don't agree with it but I get it.

With the other pure conspiracy types I start to struggle to understand. But even with most of them I at least kind of get it. With the anti-vax idiots, the chemtrails kooks and the 9/11 assholes there is at least reasonably clear sense of protagonist/antagonist going on. There's an evil power with a motive that is at least somewhat plausible driving the core of the theory.

But the flat earth nuts don't need any such trivial details to drive their insanity. They believe the earth is flat, they believe everyone in power knows this to be true and they believe everyone in power wants to keep this truth from us for... no particular reason of any consequence. And that's good enough for them.

That's just a special kind of stupid. It would be of absolutely no benefit to anyone to hide the fact that the earth was flat if that was so and yet these window lickers just don't care. They're sure they know the truth and they're sure the government is keeping the truth from us for... no reason.

And there's tons of these people and most of them are breeding. I've said it before but I don't think its ever been so true as when I say it now. We're fucked. Put a brick in your toilet, save the whales, protect the ozone, whatever you want. None of it will matter because we're fucked.

1000 years from now this planet will be populated by diverse species of wild lifeforms roaming vast forests and tundra set on top of layers of soil filled with concrete plastic and garbage. And the flat earth crowd, more than any other are a sure sign this apocalypse is looming and unavoidable.

After watching Doctor Strange, I'm convinced a powerful enough sorcerer inside the Mirror Dimension could bend and shape things such that they could create a flat earth.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

There is no better way to convey the least amount of information in the greatest amount of words than to try explaining your religious views.

What do you know, the idiots are having first Flat Earth International Conference in Cary, North Carolina.

As you can see from a flyer people of all stupid will be present: plain stupid, goofy stupid, nerdy stupid, fanatically stupid, high on meth stupid, old and stupid, look-at-me I want attention stupid.

Too bad they won't have their conference on a ship in the open waters going to the coast and wandering "How come we first see tops of the mountains and then, later on, lower grounds?"
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Guys? Can a rainbow be curved if the earth was flat?

(Why am I bothering using logic to show Christian flatearthers anything!) They have compound mental issues.
