Well, yeah. It's funny when your leftwing buddies have been trying their damndest to pin some kind of conspiracy on President Trump only to lament that nothing is sticking so far. What I like most about the Trump presidency is the make up of the SCOTUS. Conservatives making America Great Again!

What are you going to do if these continuing investigations actually do reveal collusion between members of the Trump team and Russian agents? What will you say if it's revealed that Trump was knowingly involved in Russian money laundering schemes (or, just as bad, their unwitting dupe)? What if it turns out that Trump is actually legally blameless but nonetheless so beholden to Russian banks -- and therefore to the Russian government -- that he is hopelessly compromised by his financial connections? Are you going to stick your fingers in your ears and deny it to the bitter end or be a fucking patriot in more than name only?

For my part, I'm content to reserve judgement on these matters until the conclusion of the investigations. They're too important to treat like a local high school football game. Yeah, I loathe Trump and have since the '80s. The man is a parvenu and a pig -- always has been. But my contempt for him doesn't cloud my judgement on the "Russia question". Neither of us is in possession of the necessary relevant facts, so crowing about an outcome that may not become public for another year or two is asinine.

As for your remark about having a conservative SCOTUS, I'm sure you are thrilled. Shit, without the Kochs and other beneficiaries of Citizens United being able to pump as much as they want into our elections and frame public discourse to serve their ends, wherever would you get your talking points from, working man?

Oh . . . I keep forgetting. You guys think you came to your conservatism by acts of rational free choice. Lol

I'm not crowing about anything. I just said that no one has come up with evidence of anything against Trump, yet. As much as you would love for there to be, there's nothing so far.

If one of the more leftist SCOTUS members either retires or kicks the bucket in the near future while Trump is still the POTUS, the leftist agenda in this country is pretty much shit canned.

That's a swing and an embarrassing miss if you think posting a video of illiberal people misbehaving somehow scores a point when engaging with a true liberal.

But that seems to be the thing with you. You think in terms of left and right. I think in terms of liberal and illiberal. The fringes of the left and the right have more in common with each other than they care to admit. And a hell of a lot more in common with each other than with me.

Here's a suggestion: read Hannah Arendt's The Origins of Totalitarianism sometime. She had some fascinating insights into the ways these movements -- whether of the right or of the left -- framed public discussion even as they appropriated, subverted, and ultimately destroyed the institutions that stood in their way.

The funny thing is, if you look back over the last fifty years, the Democratic presidents, while sometimes deeply flawed, were thoughtful, intelligent people -- but over the same span, the Republican presidents seem to chart a descending course: Reagan and Bush, each perhaps possessed of character but not terribly insightful; W, self-driven by his faith into dumb policies, and now Trump, so far up his own ass he doesn't understand that the outer world moves to its own beat.

The disconnect between America and the world always grows deeper when a Republican is in power, but not (even to a sorta-isolationist like myself) in a good way. It's one thing to let other countries handle their own problems, and it's another to be beholden to a policy of interference even as you claim to be for "America First".

Obama's probably the smartest president we've had since Eisenhower -- mistakes and all. But the double whammy of being a black Democrat means that for a good half of this country, the news-cycle sapped his ability to get shit done.

The fact that the current dipshit cares more about Twitter than the real world speaks volumes not only about himself, but about this country. Stupid gets what stupid deserves. Just a goddamned shame those assholes painted is with their own tarbaby.

I can recall when there were Eastern Repubs who were not the same kind of fuckheaded horses asses that the western and southern shits were and are now much worse.  Rockefeller, Javits, Dirksen, Margaret Chase Smith, Henry Cabot Lodge, a lot of people who pushed through the civil rights bill of 1964 against the Dixiecrats.  Those kinds of moderate Rs have been replaced by the nazi shitheads we see now.  And it started with Nixon.
