RE: The Nice Thing About Being An Atheist
We can say Batman is a better role model than Jesus and laugh when we watch Xtians try to argue and contort their faces and start speaking but then stop because they honestly can't think of any way in which the Dark Knight doesn't measure up to the king of hypocrites.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

---

There is no better way to convey the least amount of information in the greatest amount of words than to try explaining your religious views.

I can listen to Death Metal without feeling guilty about the blasphemous lyrics.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I agree. We should shave and/or wax them and then watch them go at it.

... for science.
I don't believe you. Get over it.

But is there a good side?

Well I still like talking to people, even if i disagree with them.

Sex with my wife is still very hot.

Learning new stuff is still cool.

Being wrong can be awesome.

I love dogs but cats are way cooler.

What have you soulless motherluvas got?

I know my species won't stop doing this to any great degree, but I wish more would consider the following when it comes to saying "I am a"......

"I am an atheist" is a shortcut.
"I am a Christian" also.
"I am a Muslim" same thing.
"I am a Hindu" same.

Or

"I am a capitalist"
"I am a socialist"
"I am a libertarian"
"I am a liberal"

Or on jobs.

"I am a pilot"
"I am a doctor"
"I am a plumber"
"I am a musician"
"I am a CEO"

No, we are none of those things as a species. The only thing we are are humans. Those examples are either positions we hold or things we do.

You cannot draw blood out of any human and find genes or atoms that physically make us those things.

"I am an atheist" is a shortcut.

"I am a human" is fact.

"I hold the off position" is really what I am saying.

Every single human can ditch one position and adapt another position. Every single human can ditch one political or economic view and adapt another. You can also leave on job for another.

Side rant on my part admittedly, but just saying.

Outside that I do get the intent of your post and I agree. The notion that no holding a god belief makes one immoral or fatalistic is bullshit.

I totally agree, and have posted elsewhere that telling somebody I'm an atheist, tells that person nothing at all about anything else I believe or disbelieve or any worldview, ideology, ideas I may hold about anything other than the god question. The OP was meant to be a bit of fun, but I get way you are saying.

....well, I suppose you could just be taking the position that atheists make wiser choices for partners. But I like knowing that if I screw up picking a partner, I have an out that garners no negative connotation. Cut your losses and move on!

Gosh, that's a whole (and interesting) thread to itself. The family structure is evolving!

As far as all these identifiers, yes, we are all human. However, that can't really be our only identity. Most of us have jobs, families, hobbies, etc. "I am a happily divorced transgender who plays organ for a Southern Baptist church and eats banana bread and Cream of Wheat every morning. I drive a fully restored '86 Hyundai Excel, and enjoy a mean game of Pente in my spare time. I listen to Frankie Yankovic and Donna Somers (sp). This is my identity."

Even a bedbound hermit has an identity beyond human.
