That's the problem, really, Boru. It would be amazing if Chad was okay with that, but when he hears Assads cheerleader say "no regime change wars" he doesn't put two and two together. So muich...so very much of who we are and what we take for granted, our place on the world stage as the indispensible nation and people who could be counted on to do the right thing (even if it takes us awhile to come around to it) depends on our willingness to be, and peoples understanding that we are..Those People, That Nation. It's something that dictators have to take into account before they do whatever fucked up thing they have planned next.
Anymore, we're signalling to the people and dictators alike that we aren't that country. That they can do whatever the fuck they want without worrying about a bunch of americans sending them off to the hague or the grave. Hell, we might even help, if the price is right!
It's not an accident that the worst parts of our cold war legacy are being used to manipulate people into destroying the decent and good parts on account of it.

No. I agree that we should have pulled out, but we should have done it with UN or Syrian troops being there as replacement. What we did there was the right thing to do, but how we did it was wrong. Then again, I'm pretty sure it was done that way specifically so that Turkey could attack the Kurds. Why else would we move troops and allow Turkey to just slaughter them with no aide? Hell, we didn't even leave the country. We still have troops squatting on Syrian oil fields.

Meh, anyway, we're on to the "UN sucks" refrain, I see. Well, that's certainly the position of anyone who wants to gas their own people, or anyone who loves their asses...and bow howdy wouldn't it be nice if they just stopped poking their noses in other peoples business.

Troops, civilians, or whatever. I could probably find a citation, but the general idea is, the US is doing fucked up stuff around the world, and it's not because they want to spread freedom and democracy everywhere. It's about oil, or geopolitical power. I'm not saying don't help people. I'm just saying what we're doing now, isn't helping people in the countries we have our hands in.
