When I lived in Fort Walton Beach back in the Eighties, we had the 'Tuesday Killer'. I met him once, took him for a thug but not a serial killer. Turned out he had Tuesdays off.

Most famous one in the area of my hometown has gotta be Drew Peterson. Was suspected of killing his 4th wife, but wasn't eventually charged. However, he was charged and convicted of murdering his 3rd wife, along with trying to hire a hitman to kill a State Attorney. By the way he was a police sergeant.

I don't know of any local serial killers in my local's history. I did used to live up in the DC area so knowing the DC sniper was moving around family that still lived up there at the time was unsettling. I do know that there was a murder suicide in the house next to me 10 years prior to me moving into the one I live in now.
Bundy and Dahamer and Gacy come to mind in American history. I do think in modern times it is harder for a serial killer to get away with it long term. Most of what you see today are public shootings where a perp may start off shooting family members then off to work or public to take it out on more people. The Atlanta day trader shooter did just that. Murdered his wife and kids and mother then went to work and murdered several people there.

FBI definition of serial killer (last time I looked): Someone who kills three or more people with a cooling off period between each.
Spree killer: Someone who kills three or more people without a cooling off period.  RE: Your local killers.
