How big is the universe?

RE: How big is the universe?
If you look at a picture of the universe it's more like a frisbee.

And I've seen a lot of pictures of the universe. It isn't at all camera shy.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

Hey it's what we're here for. Whether you want to know about quarks or quasars. Nothing is beyond the scope of AF's collective knowledge.

Of course, some of us are more knowledgeable than others.

If the universe is infinite, then for all intents and purposes, can we say that Earth is the centre of the universe? You know, The way God intended?

GC, LR, I'm pm'ing you my paypal address for some donations. I think I can fake being a smarter theist than a theist!

Sure!

Do you remember the user  StatlerWaldorf who was around a few years ago. He always advertised this ingenious creationist cosmology based on the ambiguity how clocks are synchronized in relativity. You can consistently use a convention in which light travelling towards the earth has infinite speed, and away from earth has half of what we perceive as the speed of light. This is completely unfalsifiable because it is a self-consistent relabeling of everything that doesn't change any measurable physics. It has as a consequence that what we see in the far reaches of the universe actually happens at this very moment. This way, some smart creationists wanted to justify why we can see far away Galaxies even if the universe is only 6000 years old. It's very implausible for a whole list of reasons though.

True, and his only apparent justification for taking that view was that it was convenient for his position. I recall asking him one time what mechanism he proposed that would cause light to behave in that way, and he insisted he didn't need to have one. Um, OK.
