Yes, you're responsible for what your grown childen turn out like, to a point. Yes they become self sentient at a point and responsible for their own actions. If it weren't for your parents you wouldn't exist, and if you're lucky enough to have parents to shape you for almost one fourth of your life--be thankful. For many of us, we did not. 
We do our best. And we do our worst. But that is due to lack of direction.  However, I don't blame my parents. It was the same if not worse, for them. And the same goes for their ancestors.
