Originally it was police shootings of blacks. Solid proposals could include civilian oversight boards or increased hiring of blacks as police.

You do realize that Black Lives Matter et al are grass roots movements with no real heirarchy? How precisely would you expect such a group to do such a thing.

Well, I for one am glad that people don't depend on or value alpha male's opinion for what constitutes an effective protest.

This won't fit your stereotypes, but I know absolutely nothing about that movement.

Those are steps taken at a local level. They've raised awareness.

Your complaint is like saying that the Boston Tea Party was the work of assholes because they didn't have a Bill of Rights ready to roll out.

Indeed if we took Beta's model there would never be any grass roots movements . Grass roots are messy disorganized cluster ducks . And organically form as time goes on and attention is gained .

First - WTF, we're not talking about BLM, we're talking about what NFL players could be talking about now that they have the spotlight they wanted.

Second - grass roots movements can grow up and form hierarchies if that's what they need to do in order to effect change - especially if NFL players give them a few million $ to get started.

Elections, referenda, etc. Why are you pretending to be so clueless?

Yes, and so that's where they should probably be working. Some of them likely are without fanfare.

How many articles on kneeling mention those things?

The Boston Tea Party had as its specific goal the removal of the Tea Act. Tea Act - dump the taxed tea - the connection was pretty clear.

And yet these same people don't bat an eye at the criminal conduct of many of their favorite players. Outrage over a protest like this is just fucking rediculous. Ther are far greater issues than whether or not some asshole getting payed millions to play a game stands during an anthem.

Once again, self serving jingoism.

Here's an example from the NBA. San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said, "Because you were born white, you have advantages that are systemically, culturally, psychologically there. And they have been built up and cemented for hundreds of years. But many people can’t look at it. It’s too difficult. It can’t be something that is on their plate on a daily basis. People want to hold their position, people want the status quo, people don’t want to give that up. And until it’s given up, it’s not going to be fixed."

I agree with him. I've said for years that as a white male born in the US in the 20th century, I had more opportunity than 99+% of all the people who have ever lived.

But what specific changes does he want?

He talks about giving things up, but he apparently isn't giving up his job to a black man. So, what does he want?

The fact there are so many articles is the definition of "raising awareness."

They're raising awareness of the fact that they're unhappy about something. They're not raising awareness of what they actually want, as they don't seem able to articulate that themselves.

New poll taken yesterday. Trump has higher favorables than Goodell or the NFL. 64% think players should stand and be respectful for the anthem.
