In any case, I don't think abuse is more of an issue within the RCC than elsewhere. I went to Catholic schools, from childhood until the end of adolescence, and I was never abused, nor did I ever hear of any of my classmates being abused. The girls were a bunch of "it's not sex so it's fine" carpet munchers, but no adult-student abuse.

How do you figure that?  Why do religious people have sexual hangups?

Sex is just dirty, and selfish. The man is just trying to get his nut, using the woman's body, and the woman is just thinking of how much more she can get out of the man, by having sex with him. Of course, this only applies to relationships and marriages.......when a woman has sex with Chad Thundercock, she knows she won't be able to get anything out of him, because he's an alpha male, and alpha males don't play that game. Most men are not alpha males, but regardless, sex is always selfish, whether it's the man being selfish, or the woman, or both. And besides, even if sex wasn't selfish at all, it would still be dirty. So many bodily fluids are exchanged, and it smells bad. Something smelling bad is a good indicator of its sinfulness. That's why cockroaches are considered such an unholy form of life, because they stink, in such a particularly bad way.

Still waiting for similar scrutiny of the public school system,  which has a far worse history of sexual abuse than does the RCC.  For some reason, the media has no interest in investigating government schools.

Jewish Bible Not Obsolete, Rabbis Tell Pope After Sermon Reignites Centuries-Old Feud

In his August 11 address, Pope Francis reflected on the New Testament teachings of St. Paul, saying that, "the law (Torah) however does not give life. It does not offer the fulfillment of the promise because it is not capable of being able to fulfill it...Those who seek life need to look to the promise and to its fulfillment in Christ."

Rabbi Rasson Arousi, chair of the Commission of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel for Dialogue with the Holy See, took issue with the comments, expressing in a letter seen by Reuters that the pope's comments could be interpreted to suggest that Jewish law, outlined in the Torah and the Bible's Old Testament, was obsolete.

"In his homily, the pope presents the Christian faith as not just superseding the Torah; but asserts that the latter no longer gives life, implying that Jewish religious practice in the present era is rendered obsolete," Rabbi Arousi said in the letter.

He said these messages if intended as the rabbinate interpreted them, would represent a "teaching of contempt." Such teachings were phased out by the Catholic Church in 1965 when the Second Vatican Council denied the previously held concept of collective Jewish guilt for the death of Jesus.

Each side is just scoring political points.  The Pope never said that the OT is obsolete.  He said it can't give life - as in, following the Law is not sufficient for salvation.  This has been the Christian position for 2000 years, or there would be no Christianity.  If the Pope were to agree that the NT is not needed, he would have to give up his job, and if the Rabbis were to agree that the NT had any validity, they would have to give up theirs.

Consider the opening verse: “Imagine there’s no heaven / It’s easy if you try / No hell below us, above us only sky / Imagine all the people livin’ for today.” 

I frankly can’t imagine anything worse. To say that there is no heaven or hell is to say that there is no absolute criterion of good and evil — no way of meaningfully determining the difference ­between right and wrong, no standard outside of the subjectivities of each moral actor by which to say any one agent is better than any other. 

If you doubt the convictions of a Roman Catholic bishop, take a good hard look at the tens of millions of corpses piled up in the last century by people who took very seriously the proposition that there is “no hell below us; above us only sky.”

A growing movement to legalize euthanasia across European countries prompted Pope Francis to call the act a sign of "throwaway culture" that treats elderly populations as "disposable," in a recent interview.

"What is (deemed) useless is discarded. Old people are disposable material; they are a nuisance. Not all of them, but of course, in the collective subconscious of the throwaway culture, the old, the terminally ill, and unwanted children, too; they are returned to the sender before they are born," the pope told COPE, a radio station owned by the Spanish bishops' conference, according to Catholic Review.

Pope Francis' comments come weeks after campaigners in Italy launched a petition to reverse a law banning assisted suicide, making the country the latest in Europe to move toward legalizing the act.

So far, the petition has received over 750,000 signatures, which is enough to hold a public referendum on the issue next year. According to the news outlet, polls have suggested that as many as 90 percent of Italians back the legalization of the assisted suicide.

The stupidest part of his statement is the fact that neither Hitler nor Stalin or Mao believed morality was subjective and if rewards and punishment are what define morality that paints morality in a very poor light.
