"Mother" Theresa has a new documentary about her
Quote:Mother Teresa covered up for Catholic Church: A new documentary series on saint's 'darker side'
The three-part series, which will air on Sky Documentaries on May 9, Mother Teresa covered up for the Catholic church's greatest excesses and seemed more drawn to poverty and sorrow than truly helping people escape it.
"Her spirituality was related to Jesus on the cross," said Mary Johnson, who worked with Mother Teresa for 20 years. "She believed that being poor was good since Jesus was poor. It's schizophrenia, you know," according to the Daily Mail report.
More importantly, Mother Teresa's final decade was maybe her most trying. She was getting on in years, but the church needed her aid to preserve it from the mounting crisis of priest child molestation.

Quote:The beginning of the fall of the Catholic Church in Ireland
“We can no longer ignore the fact that much of what the church has built up in Ireland over the last two centuries is crumbling before our eyes,” said Bishop Duignan, the 13th man to hold the position in Ireland’s youngest Catholic diocese.
“Many no longer believe the message. Many of our parishes are struggling,” he said. “Despite great work done by generations of priests, religious and lay people now, at times, it feels like we have been out all night without a single catch.”
Galway holds a key place in the recent history of the Catholic Church since Duignan’s predecessor, Eamonn Casey, came to grief 30 years ago after it emerged he had fathered a son, Peter, with American Annie Murphy.
“He presented as not at all remote or distant like many bishops which made the revelations of his double life, his cover-up, his hypocritical preaching on fidelity and responsibility and family planning all the more galling, all the more difficult to credit,” she went on.
In 1992 when Casey fell, Ireland was still comparatively innocent, even with realities hiding in plain sight, such as the Magdalene laundry on Dublin’s Sean McDermott Street which did not close until 1996.
It meant the exhumation of the remains of 133 women with a further 22 discovered later. All were former workers at the laundry but only 75 death certificates existed for them, despite it being a criminal offence not to register a death.
Back then, of course, no one had yet heard of Tuam and the almost 800 children buried there without trace. Many years would pass before Catherine Corless began her work to remind all that they, too, had once lived.
It followed a three-month investigation during which a friendly priest, also a canon lawyer, advised then editor Conor Brady: “If you’re wrong or if you can’t prove it, the church will destroy The Irish Times.”
Within five years a priest would have to be buried at night to escape the wrath of abused Irish Catholics and their relatives when Fr Brendan Smyth was laid to rest at 4.15am in late August 1997 at a graveside in the Cavan countryside.
Among the hidden realities to emerge in his case was the discovery that former Catholic Primate Cardinal Seán Brady had questioned children abused by Smyth in a 1975 inquiry and sworn them to silence.
Years later, it became clear that this was standard Catholic Church practice worldwide.
Soon more such revelations unleashed powerful waves of suffering and emotion across Ireland, so many the result of casual, sometimes merciless cruelties compounded by the indifference of those with power.

You want to hear disgusting? Back when Catherine Corless first publicised the fact that there were eight hundred babies buried on the grounds of the mother and baby "home" in Tuam, murdered by the nuns' neglect, the Irish Times did its level best to traduce her and blacken her name. They knew she was right but still tried to silence her.

Funny how Catholic Church sees itself vandalized when someone else thinks they have a right to make some exterior changes on it while, at the same time, they think they have a right to order women what to do with their bodies.

Anti-Jewish medieval sculpture can stay on church, top German court rules
BERLIN, June 14 (Reuters) - Germany's top court ruled on Tuesday that an anti-Semitic, medieval sculpture can stay on the facade of a church in the eastern town of Wittenberg, rejecting an appeal by a Jewish plaintiff who has for years argued it is an insult to all Jews.
At a time when politicians are warning about rising anti-Semitism in Germany, the ruling is a reminder of widespread anti-Jewish sentiment in the Middle Ages.
The plaintiff has been waging a court battle for years to have the sandstone carving, about 4 metres from the ground, removed.
However, the Federal Court of Justice, the country's top appeals court, upheld rulings from lower courts which dismissed the case, saying there was no breach of the law.

Here's an interesting article on Catholic Church's brainwashing techniques
Quote:I’m a Catholic kid who supports abortion rights — thanks to my church’s catechism class
In the spring of 1997, my sister and I took catechism classes at our home parish, St. Boniface Catholic Church in Anaheim.
Once a week, we joined about 20 other teens in the basement of the massive church to hear lectures on morality, Catholic principles and how to model our coming adulthood on the ways of Jesus Christ.
And one afternoon, the topic was abortion.
Our instructors stressed that the procedure was a moral sin unacceptable under any circumstance — even rape, incest or to protect the health of the mother. The sanctity of life, they preached, was something we Catholics had to uphold at all times.
Then, the lights dimmed. We were going to see a film.
The documentary began with a closeup of a woman’s vagina, her legs strapped into stirrups. You couldn’t see her face or the face of the doctor whose hands came into the frame holding forceps and a cutting tool as he inserted them into the woman’s womb.
Blood gushed forth like a river. The doctor scraped and pulled and stabbed. Finally, a dead fetus tumbled out. Opening credits rolled. The church basement was silent.
The documentary went on for at least half an hour. There was no narration, no context — just clip after clip of graphic footage that finally concluded with a dismembered fetus, the camera cutting closer and closer until everyone was staring into its lifeless face. At that point, most of my classmates were in tears.
I was angry.
I had grown up thinking that abortion was immoral, that anyone who had one would burn in hell. But I immediately saw the film for what it was: propaganda.
Our elders had taught us about other moral issues, but abortion was what they put the most effort into, the only topic that required a full class and a movie.
There was no debate, no nuance. The teachers just wanted to shock us into complacency so we would hate abortion and its practitioners forevermore. But it didn’t work on me.
Four of the justices in the majority — Clarence Thomas, Samuel A. Alito Jr., Amy Coney Barrett and Brett M. Kavanaugh — are Catholic, while Neil M. Gorsuch was raised in the faith. Sonia Sotomayor, a Catholic, voted with the court’s other two liberals to keep Roe vs. Wade.
I rolled my eyes as bishops across the United States, including Gomez, blasted “woke” culture and threatened to deny Communion to Catholic politicians like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Biden who support abortion rights, even as the bishops do next to nothing to fight other life-destroying societal ills like racism and poverty.
I wonder how much better American society would be if my catechism teachers had devoted that grisly afternoon so long ago to other topics. If antiabortion activists screened films and distributed literature about lynchings, about the tragedy that is migrants dying while trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. About children picking crops in the San Joaquin Valley or stuck in abusive homes, about mothers left to raise kids on their own.
That will never happen, though, because it’s far easier to fight for the unborn than to defend the living.

America's Catholic bishops have now unleashed forces they can't control
A 2021 investigation by the National Catholic Reporter found that major anti-abortion groups were funding voter suppression efforts in key states, endorsing Donald Trump's Big Lie and pushing for future Republican victories.
Worse, abortion bans could be the first step toward a police state for pregnant women and anyone who may help them terminate a pregnancy. As the New Yorker's Jia Tolentino predicts, pregnant people could conceivably be surveilled to ensure they do nothing to endanger a "preborn" child — and could be charged with murder if a miscarriage or stillbirth is confused with an abortion.
But women who want to get pregnant may also be at risk. The Catholic church condemns in vitro fertilization (IVF) because of its doctrine that life begins at conception, wary that some fertilized eggs could be discarded or used in medical research. If a state decides to take the same position, where does that leave infertile women and couples?
In their statement hailing the Roe decision, the bishops congratulated anti-abortion activists on all the alleged good they have done to support pregnant women over the years. But they might also consider all the money that was squandered on this decades-long struggle, and the moral compromises they made along the way.
The bishops also might meditate on the fact that the so-called help that pregnant women received was clearly insufficient. The U.S. has the highest rate of maternal mortality among wealthy nations and also ranks poorly on infant mortality, with rates far higher than other major Western nations like France and the U.K.
On the bishops' planet, only the innocent "preborn" have any real right to life. The rest of us must adjust to the dictates of what increasingly looks like a doctrinaire Supreme Court dominated by ultra-conservative Catholics.

Lawmaker files for legalizing divorce in Catholic Philippines
A Philippine lawmaker is taking a second shot at legalizing divorce in Asia's only Catholic-majority country.
The Philippines is the only country, aside from the Vatican, to outlaw absolute divorce even though the Catholic hierarchy grants canonical dissolution of marriage.
The country allows declaration of nullity based on psychological incapacity, a long and expensive legal process that only the court could decide, not the couple themselves.
Lawmakers pushing for absolute divorce say it is time for the Philippines to pass a law because defective marriages were leading to increased women and child abuse in the country.

There should be a law that all churches - not just Catholic ones - must be built at least 500 yards from schools and daycares.
