Putting God back in schools will also eliminate homosexuality, liberalism, uppity negroes and Catholicism.

And gay Americans will be exiled to the House of Representatives.

But mass shootings happen at churches too. So what's the solution there? Obviously being a place of prayer, where the people worship god, does not prevent psychos from busting in and gunning people down. This is how you know the whole "get god back in the classroom" is just a political stunt, right? Because buildings where prayers and praise take the forefront are not magically protected, any more than any other building.

For the most part, I would agree, that people are just trying to capitalize on the situation; towards a goal of theirs.  I would note, that I don't hear about gun control, when there is a mass shooting in say Germany (or other places where there is strict gun control).  And when there is a mass murder, which does not use guns... we do not hear about how gun control would have done nothing to prevent this.

With that being said, I do think that those advocating prayer are closer to the actual problem, than those looking to ban a particular weapon.  It's a social problem, not a weapon problem.   How long are we going to tell kids, that there is no meaning to life, that there is no moral accounting and it's up to them to decide what is moral or not.  We tell them there is no real right and wrong, and then are shocked when some behave badly?  We teach them, that it is all about them, how they feel, and that the slightest provocation merits a huge retaliation.   We advocate easy divorce and ignore the facts/studies which show that absent fathers (parents) are harmful for society [1]  [2]

So on one level, I agree with you.  I think that both the prayer in schools and the gun control people, both use these things as a political pry bar for their cause.  I would also agree, that prayer in a particular building may not particularly protect it from such things (be it school or church Luke 13 1-5)  And while I feel somewhat that an increased media presence and especially the social media problem has increased things even further;  when you look back at the change (at least here in the us),  it is hard not to see some correlation between the increase in liberal leftist teachings and practice and the results that we are seeing.

I'm not sure where you got the stuff you mentioned in the second paragraph, but I do agree there's a social problem to deal with here as well. We need to try harder to rehabilitate people, instead of just locking them in a cage for X number of years, then wonder why they come out worse than when they went in. Or helping people with mental issues, instead of scorning them for being the way they are, or looking down on them for seeking help.

We scorn people with mental illness?
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Quote:I'm not sure where you got the stuff you mentioned in the second paragraph,

Like everything else he says, he pulls it out of his ass.   This is not an either/or situation, RR.  We have lots of crazy/angry people walking around AND it is far too easy for them to get their hands on weapons.  You know, lots of people who kill claim it was your fucking god who told them to do it.  Do we really want them talking to such a god?

I really can't see where this rote, sheepish, "prayer" that you think is so important does any good at all.  It seems very muslim to me.  And we have all seen the results of what happens when they talk to their 'god.'

Yes, people with mental illness have problems in this country. A lot of people want to just shun them, instead of helping them.

Of course we do.  Sometimes the cops just gun them down like dogs.  I would call that the epitome of "scorn."

Now that I think about it, you have listed some stories in Fucking Cops, where police were called because someone was acting irrationally, and they just busted in and gunned the guy down.

I've never heard of anyone shunning a mentally ill person, or looking down on them for seeking help.
