My mom was the world's worst cook. I think she learned from her mother and I've already told you how that went.
I recall once when I was about 7 that she decided to make a "crumb cake" from some kind of mix. It was well advertised. The entire pan was filled with crumbs.
My brother ate it with a spoon.
Bad memories.

I hadn't had it for decades and had forgotten how it tasted...
Bought a can from Coles for the cat ... You know how cat's won't lie to not hurt our feelings...
He smelt it and walked off nonplussed like it didn't belong to the food kingdom!
I ate it ... it was meh...

The secret to Spam is to put it in something rather than eat it alone.

I don't mind the taste of Spam, and I concur it's better as an ingredient, but as a stand alone the TEXTURE is totally off putting to me.
Jaysus, what were they thinking ??
Still, the absolute funniest thing about spam is:
Andrew Zimern, famous for eating almost anything (pickled hog placenta! boiled Bonsai cedar tree needles! sea slug guts! desiccated star fish that was a table decoration he tried to eat by mistake!!!) but he DON'T LIKE SPAM, LOL !!!!

And regarding my textural complaints about Spam, note as gay male I've consumed and enjoyed semen.
Probably best to not let the Hormel marketing department hear about my review of their product . . . .

Never had a problem with dryness.
Maybe it's a breadcrumb thing.
Of course! The natural and added water and fat in the ground meat is retained by the bread crumbs/ oats/ etc. Just like the stuffing in a turkey. If you moisten the bread crumbs before hand with stock you will add flavor and additional moisture.

Zimern doesn't like walnuts either.
I'm assuming he noted that while quaffing down some fermented cow sphincter . . .
