Can a mod please edit that post and cover up that massive spoiler please??

Yeah no spoilers

Oh well, seems like critics love it but audience not very much

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

To be fair, Empire Strikes Back had initially mixed reviews as well, and was only highly appreciated after Return of the Jedi was released, and it was viewed as part of the whole story. A lot of fans were confused and disappointed by the darker tone of the whole movie, and it's ending. This will likely be the same, though as I've said, there are some fans who are literally impossible to please at this point, and that's ok. The movie is doing well at the box office both in the US and overseas, so I think the vocal minority of audience reviewers are making themselves extra loud. Only time will tell if it gets better with age, as Empire did, or not.

It's hard to even have a take beyond "I really enjoyed it" after one viewing. Watching it, I was pretty wrapped up in enjoying the story unfold.
Contrast with a movie like Thor: Ragnorak, that was really fun, but you knew where it was going the whole way.

The Kylo-Luke-Rey stuff was stellar.
I enjoyed the Poe stuff.
The thing with the horses was a bit lame, but that planet as it relates to the universe seems relevant, especially in terms of setting the stage for #9.

It's been years (decades?) since I've given a fuck about this franchise. Is this the last film, or will they just keep churning them out until the end of time?

With any luck they'll continue to churn out movies as interesting as The Force Awakens and (apparently) The Last Jedi. There is one more expected in the line of movies originally conceived of by Lukas but there are plenty of directions to go within the universe they've created. Fine with me if lots of people stay home, I hate crowds.

Well, we have Solo next year, and then the last chapter of the Skywalker Saga the next, and they've announced a new trilogy a few weeks ago.

Disney paid $6 billion for the franchise. It's only obvious they're going to continue making money from it.

And while I wasn't the biggest fan of The Force Awakens (and some of that does come from a dislike of Jar Jar Abrams and his filming and directing style - something I found superior in the Last Jedi), I did enjoy the movie.

I'm also enjoying the animated shows, and I hope we're going to see more from them filling in the missing years between movies.

Im really wary of the Solo movie. To me, Fired is Solo, the end, and I'm going to have a helluva time getting past that hang up. I've also heard it is having some creative difficulties with the directors being fired and a new one brought in, but Rogue One went through some pretty tough last minute rewrites and edits and is a great movie, so I'll give Solo a chance.

Wow, I just read this extremely insightful article about the reasons why some people love kt, some people hate it.

Very fair, never nasty, and a good read, though full of spoilers. Though this non spoiler quote is great:
Last Jedi is Act 2 of a story about letting go of the past and embracing the future. Maybe it was destined to be divisive.
