I am in a very close relationship with a 61 year old woman , whose mother, 60 years ago was forced to make such a decision. Between grabbing a 2 year old girl or her 4 year old brother. This occurred in a flash flood in the Sonoran Desert. Talk about Sophie's Choice! I know this topic presents philosophical and theist "gotcha" moments but in real life it creates interpersonal and intergenerational ripple effects. Just saying!

And it's truly impossible to know for certain in advance what one would do in a real life emergency situation with only seconds to decide.

On the poll question, it's easy to decide what you would do while sitting in the comfort of your chair or sofa and with the luxury of time to mull it over. But what if in real life, the person you didn't choose to save had their entire family begging and crying for you to help save them? What would you do then?

Also, I know polls on AF aren't anonymous but if you really want to elicit truthful answers to thorny ethical questions, the answers need to be anonymous. What people say and do when they know people are looking can be very different to what they'll say and do when they believe no one is looking.

I save the person I love the most, and ask another great swimmer to save the person who loves me the most. Both are saved. Loophole abuse ftw.

Definitely the person I love the most.
The other one's gonna feel all betrayed and whatever, but then again, the other one's gonna be dead soon. At least I still get to spend my life with the one I love.

Person B is the person that loves you the most and/or loves you the most.

Person A and person B doesn't necessarily have to be someone in your life, you can make up a hypothetic person if you have any doubts on who to choose.

You're a great swimmer but you can save only one of the two people. Who will you save, why?

Doc says I have an iron health. Saving people from drowning on water its a thing. Saving people from drowning in beer... I got this.
