Would you date a theist?

RE: Would you date a theist?
Date? If she was foxy, short term yes but IMO real relationships depend heavily on respect, people's personal philosophy and beliefs are a part of their character and so something to be evaluated (along with the rest of "the package").

The truth is, although I respect anyone's rights to believe as they wish, I don't think I could truly respect a theist's beliefs any more than I could respect the views of someone who was sexist, racist or fascist (or worse, say a paedophile) ... that isn't to say that a theist is specifically as harmful as any of these , I just don't find any of these things worthy of respect and if I can't respect someone (a crucial part of someone's character) then in my view the relationship is doomed.

Guess that's why all my friends are atheist (or at least apatheist) Smile

I don't see why dating someone who doesn't share your beliefs should even be an issue. It's a bit childish, adults should be past all that.

It can be an issue often enough... to use an extreme example: he believes that murdering me will save him from a fiery eternity... and I don't believe that. Could easily become a pretty significant issue Tongue

Sure. In fact, in September we are flying to South Carolina so my wife can go to a yoga retreat with her sister and I get to go out with a friend who is a crazed baptist. Once in a while she slips up and tells me that she prays for me but for the most part we don't discuss it.

Date as in just hanging out drinking, movie going, fucking, putt putt golf playing, video gaming? Or Date as in enter into an exclusive 'I love you, you love me.' relationship?

Yes to the former, no to the latter.

What is it that you believe I am ignorant of? What do you accuse me of not knowing?
