This is indefensible, yet I see people defending it.

Let's be honest.  The real disappointment, the real thing that previously were  thought to be on the whole fundamentally decent, redeemable and should be given every chance, and which is now proven, whatever the ineffectual dessentions,  to have in the end no standard to uphold, no bottom below which it would not sink, and no glimmer whatsoever of the slightest shred of redeeming inner humanity, is not trump, but an influential enough part of the American demography.   That is what is truly disturbing, that fatal doubts could not but be cast upon the entire polity of which they remain an critically enfranchised portion

I guess so. I only know I am glad to be home in the UK and not living in the USA anymore.
