When two tenured, prominent, respected members of congress from opposite sides of the aisle agree to the substance of comments made in a closed-door meeting, I see no reason to cast reasonable doubt on the substance of those comments.

I'm just getting into the story, but to my knowledge, they (Trump Administration) are not denying that those comments where made.

That isn't what I was contesting.  (unless you would like to turn it into a discussion about the epistemology of testimony... but we should probably start another thread if we want to do that).

Edit to add... thanks for the info though!

Thanks, I had seen that since I posted, previously I had read, that they where not denying it.

While that may make it more interesting, it doesn't really change the comments and purpose of my earlier post.

Yes, they are, amongst others.

1. I fucking love Norway and I'm weird as fuck. So I guess your theory checks out there. 2. The weather isn't as nice as Britain where it's deliciously boring but I'd take horrendously cold weather over roasting hot weather any day. 3. Scandinavian countries are the most civilized, socially advanced, secular and non-backwards counties in the world. 4. Karsk is big in Norway and Karsk is awesome! 5. The best player in the world of my favorite video game in the world is Norwegian! 6. Norway is top of the list of the world's happiest countries!

Yes, I've heard a few Republicans say things that ring true for me, especially on fiscal issues. But nowadays, I just can't wrap my head around their social policies and that has stopped me from voting Republican.

Sure, I feel the same way. I just don't see much value in the demonizing I see going on.

ETA: I'm not defending Trump, but the characterization of (all) Republicans as racist.

That's what you get when your foreign policy is pooping on other communities.
The U.S is -from my view as an outsider- looks and seems behind Europe; especially Scandinavian communities. And that is exactly why wise people seek peace and not war.
I would challenge linguistic hardships and pick the north over the states at anytime..and since I was born a native in Arabia I think...well, the U.S or Norway don't matter. But the American army is from the U.S .

The american army is from everywhere, all the time, but especially at night.  We're under your beds and in your closets hiding from the sun, otherwise.  Wink

I hope that you never have the unique honor of having a man with an american flag on his shoulder standing between you and a wahabist.....but I suspect that you'd gain an appreciation for the job we do, if you did. The US army isn't a blight on america..america is a blight on our armed forces. We squander those with the courage and conviction to do what most would not..or could not...and at the same time cheapen their being expended at the behest of our nation...very often against their own better judgement.... by debasing ourselves and our own principles in truly pointless ways.

I can understand why you might see us as faceless killers. All dragon skin and oakleys and gunmetal blue - but that's necessary pomp for the profession. It's a head-dress, a frightening visage worn and promoted in order to intimidate our enemies. Underneath it all, it's just a bunch of poor scared kids being told what to do by their betters and trying to make some decent thing, any decent thing..out of that shit sandwich.

To be fair you blast your own location yourself, and I'd agree theocracies SUCK for those not in the majority.

BUT, that is IS NOT what 45 was doing. He is an old dinosaur who thinks if you come to America you should "act white". On top of pandering to bigots. "Melting pot" to President Shithole" means bleach your skin and speak perfect english.

BUT outside that would agree that our foreign policy has sucked since WW2, and we have gotten stuck in quagmire after quagmire since. BUT at the same time it is a small planet and you cant always be isolationist. America tried to stay out of WW2 as long as it could, then Japan attacked us. I'd only say far too much old money, children of that generation, whom grew up to be the Dick Cheney's still think we can be John Wayne in a War movie, and global politics have changed since WW2.
