Amazon Alexa said Jesus/God is fake/made up/fictional?

RE: Amazon Alexa said Jesus/God is fake/made up/fictional?
You know I do remember maybe a year ago I asked android phone "OK google, did Jesus exist?" and it told me that according to most historians he didn't, but then later on it said "I can search google" and now it says something like "I'm still learning about religion"
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

If true, the statement can't be evaluated without knowing what criteria were used to determine that answer. What Alexa thinks on the matter is irrelevant.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Doesn't she just use Google? If I Google "who is Jesus Christ," I get a historical account.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

This just shows that you don't have the first inkling of how machine learning works.

Asking a wifi enabled device if it's "connected" to something can have odd behavior when that thing is not a network device.

So they released a patch that corrected this by adding context to that query.

This isn't the same as it giving out blatantly inflammatory information.

This isn't a good look for you.
  • Many many people detect the shutdown/cia/alexa scenario above as "inflammatory", so my earlier response is likely unavoidable and valid.
  • Note that machine learning ironically could have yielded the "fictitious/jesus" response,  based on how deep neural networks and or long short term memory networks work!

You should read our rules. Nothing prevents anyone from using insulting language. This isn't a theist forum.

Considering all of the context surrounding this event, namely:

1) The sheer level of tinfoil hattedness it would take to believe that a massive company like Amazon would purposely code Islamic propaganda into their Alexa devices (if your argument is that they didn't, then there would be nothing to be angry about, no?)

2) The current cultural phenomena of nationalistic jingoism and fetishized anti-Islamism.

3) The fact that all it takes to be "controversial" in this day and age is 'someone made a suggestive tweet about it'

I'll slice this one like Occam.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I don't detect the relevance of your response above, because:
  • I didn't say Amazon hard-coded it into Alexa. (Machine learning algorithms like "long-Short term memory" networks or "convolutional neural nets" that can be used for parts of Alexa, while partially hard-coded, may be trained to learn abstractions from input spaces of word corpus. Examples of hard coding is the somewhat "tabula-rasa" like base code that learns abstractions from the data. The base code may consist of pre-programming that for eg, resemble the visual cortices, such as a simple hypersurface "W*x+ b " convolved by operator "*".)
On that note I also detect that the "jesus/fictional" was as I had underlined, probable given the system used, contrary to your earlier claim of "non-credulity".

Has Amazon issued a statement/commented on the issue/nonissue yet?

The relevance is that if it was indeed not a hard coded query response, then it can hardly be considered controversial on Amazon's part.

I still don't detect the relevance of your comment, because controversy may occur, regardless of the manufacturer's intentions

Right, but if it wasn't intended by Amazon, then what the fuck does it matter?
