Homosexuality

RE: Homosexuality
A few salient quotes from the Nurses' Health Study II abstract:

Quote:First, through a direct process of targeted violence, youth whose sexual minority orientation is known to others may be targeted for abuse by parents, other adults, or older children because of antigay bias as a means to reinforce the lower social status held by sexual minorities.

Quote:Second, through a less direct process, sexual orientation minority youth may experience social isolation or internal conflict related to their lower social status, and as a result, may be more likely to engage in risk behaviors such as alcohol and other drug use that may then put them at risk for abuse by parents, other adults, or older children.

Quote:A third hypothesized process of violence victimization relates to gender expression rather than sexual orientation per se and so may also be considered indirect. Sexual orientation minority women are more likely than heterosexual women to report gender nonconformist behavior in childhood,33 and some evidence suggests that gender nonconformist children may be more likely to be targeted for abuse.

In all three cases, the orientation came first and then some assholes bullied the LGBT individuals. It's clear where the problem lies. As always, the problem is the abuser and not the abused.

RE: Homosexuality
You know what those studies don't include? When the victims first self-identified as LGBT--Pre or Post molestation.

Sexual Abuse is not an indicator of lasting sexual orientation. I'm sure the Christians like to think so because they think it 'proves' them right. That being gay is unnatural. But the underlying suggestion is that gay people are only that way because they were abused--and that their God thinks that those abuse victims deserve to burn in hell for their abuse. I'm surprised Christians are so willing to take up this line of reasoning. You don't get to have your cake and eat it to.

Shurely you're not implying that Hugly has got the horse mixed up with the cart again? Say it isn't so, Ethel!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

It's possible that even without being "out," and before having any sense of sexual orientation, the victims were marginalized and bullied because their behaviours or interests or some other personality trait came across as nonstandard.  (For example, I could never grok "girl things" like playing with dolls and just didn't fit in with my female peers.)

You see, unlike you, I at least provide receipts to show why I take a certain position? Your sources depict bullying, primarily, and do not give any support that most gay people have that orientation due to sexual abuse.
Astreja has answered your nlm study better than I ever could.  And sexually-abused lesbians?  Most females have been sexually abused.  It's the world we live in.
And OF COURSE gay children are bullied.  Wow.  High school is still hell for gays and lesbians, and back when I went to school?  Much, much worse than today.
We can clearly see why you're taking "a certain position" and providing celebrity examples and dubious research.
You want to establish your already held belief that homosexuals are "less than" and damaged (because calling them nasty evil perverts is frowned upon these days).

You still need a study to prove that the majority of homosexuals are victims of SEXUAL ABUSE.

Yup and he won't produce said study or he will hyper focus on one sentence in contrast to the rest of the article . It's wolf inbreeding argument all over again.

*emphasis mine*
Those are clearly hypothetical:

Quote:The processes that are hypothesized to contribute to elevated rates of violence victimization of sexual minorities may be direct or indirect.

Quote:We hypothesized that among those with a sexual minority orientation, we would observe higher rates of having been targets of violence in childhood and adolescence.

While you maybe can make a case for abuse occurring after someone has identified sexually in adolescence, you cannot say the same for childhood cases.

RE: Homosexuality
You reckon a little childhood abuse is all it would have taken to make you think "mmmmm, penis", then, Huggs?

Have you tried any since?  It stands to reason that if penis or abuse could make you gay then, it could make you gay now.  Go experiment, for science..then report back.
