Obviously we will necessarily have to be selective.

For such a trip, what's your itinerary, and why?

Amsterdam... bah (never been there Tongue )

2 weeks isn't enough to go everywhere, so you'll have to be selective.
Even if you stick to Northern Europe, 2 weeks isn't enough!!
How are you planning on moving from place to place? car, train, plane?

OK, well... most places I haven't been, but word is in my brain about them, so do some research on the places before you commit to them.
From Amsterdam, follow on to Belguim's port town of Antwerp - the old Flemish "capital", from where many ships sailed into the new world, or to trade along the Mediterranean.
You can then pass through Brussels to see the EU headquarters!

From there to France and Paris... take a few days for Versailles and the Louvre.
From here, there can be 3 alternatives - take a train under the channel to London and come visit me at Oxford, Stimbo not far, and Hammy a bit further up north.... while you're going north, visit Edinburgh and Glasgow. Then hop on to Ireland and enjoy Dublin.
From there, you get on a plane to Lisbon! Big Grin Can't miss it!
Then Madrid and Barcelona, Milan, Florence and Rome.
Venice, Vienna and Prague (can't miss Prague, it's amazing!)
From there, if you want, go into Poland and visit Auschwitz, then hop south to Athens, from where you can return home, getting a tan while you wait for your flight.

Not by 2019 it won't be.

I'm currently living within an hour of an airport with lots of direct flights to Murrika. Come visit me, in sunny Ireland.

Spent most of me life in Ireland (sort of).  No desire to go back.

Pass through antwerp for a single day.
I'll show you Around and we can share a beer or ten.

RE: European Vacation
Coincidentally, I'm taking my kid to Europe in summer 2019.
Not too interested in Amsterdam but my top choices are Reykjavik, Paris, Barcelona, Italy, Prague and Porto, Portugal (saw it featured on a tv show and it looked pretty cool Smile ).

It will only be a week or two so I'll choose one area, I'm not big on 6 countries in 8 days-type trips. I need time to wander around and get a feel for a place to really enjoy it.

I've also heard some of these cities are jam packed with tourists in summer and I'd rather give the touristy crowds a miss.

I would love to go back to the UK to visit but I lived there illegally for a time in the 1990s. Not sure if I'd make it past the border.

Never had too much interest in Europe. But if i went i'd say England, France, Italy, and Spain would interest me most. Maybe Belgium for their waffles and chocolates.  Big Grin
