Repetition doesn't mean anything when you haven't answered my points.
Nor does your response alter the sheer lunacy of requiring a gun to feel safe .

That i 100% agree . And even if it did .In no sane or reasonable world should someone need a weapon to feel safe in their own home .

If you'd rather knee-jerk than discuss, great, that's on you.
You perhaps missed it above, but I don't own a gun. I can, however, understand that in some instances, having a firearm in your home isn't just a matter of "feeling" safe, but actually taking a step to ensure safety. Before you go all strawman on me, I'm not saying it's a cure-all. But If I am a single mother without the means to simply move to a safer neighborhood, what would you suggest? Address the points I've made, already.

Address the points I've made, already. 1.I never said you did own a gun. And yes it is about feeling safe as probability of you actually being the victim of a crime is minuscule. And the likelihood of you being in scenario were a gun will be of any use is even less so . Essentially it's a glorified safety blanket that's more likely to kill you or your family then any intruder .
2. I never said nor would would i have implied that it's a cure all .I'm saying it's more akin to a placebo.
3. I already did in my original comment . I said move or the neighbourhood needs to be fixed when clearly said " or fix that shit " . Funny how jumped on the first point but seems to have ignored the words after that . because as i sad nobody should have to live in such a scenario.

A gun that is safe is not ready for instant use. Having an unsafe gun in the house increases the likelihood that a member of the household or a guest will be shot. In the US 34 people die for every bad guy that is killed with a gun. Those are simply stupid odds.

Do you live in a city? Do you know what it's like to confront an intruder? I lived in cities most of my life, and I do know what it's like to confront an intruder face-to-face.. I didn't have a gun, either. I had a pickaxe on my shoulder, and thankfully that was enough.
This is probably why I don't dismiss out-of-hand the views of folks who don't share my current living conditions, idyllic though they are. The only thing I have to worry about are critters.

Perhaps it is. And perhaps people actually use guns in self-defense. Statistics are argued in that event, but a floor of thousands of uses a year doesn't seem unlikely.

How would you suggest "fixing that shit" when gun laws in America are generally set at the state level? So you're outvoted, and don't have the money to move. What next? I ignored the "fix that shit" comment because it seemed obvious to me that anyone familiar with a lawful democracy understands that you can be outvoted, and being law-abiding, submit to the majority.
In either case, your advice is pabulum, easy words. In the meantime plenty of folks are stuck in bad 'hoods. Would you deny them the right to defend themselves?

Yes i have lived in plenty of cities some with high crime rates(Mexico city ) . Never bought a gun . Yup i have confronted a intruder i scared him off by yelling .

Or maybe they have been sold culture of fear .

Yes i don't view defence as justification for Americans current gun policy . And if the fix is the democratic system then it's still needs to be fixed .

Guns are far more dangerous to the people in a residence than they are to any hypothetical intruder. The intruder would be in a house for, generously, an hour in his entire life. The residents live with the guns. This is why 34 innocent people die for every bad guy that gets shoot down. Guns are either ready for immediate use, and therefore not safe, or they're safe, and therefore not ready for immediate use. The FBI tells us that the most dangerous intruders are the ones who come when they KNOW people will be home. They are looking for a confrontation. They're ready, they initiate the event, not the resident.
The thing people need to defend their family from is their own poor decisions.

Given the above the status of guns are reduce pretty much to ego-support and "cool toys". And some people have hundreds of them.

It's a scary thought that weapons are treated like stamp collecting .
