I've read all your answers to this point and find none of you except Paul the Human being honest or realistic. If Christ returns in our life time I wish that we all would be setting on a rock together so that I could see the expressions on your faces. I do think I would have enough time to do so because Christ will first raise the dead that have trusted Him for their salvation.... Oh wait that would give me a second facial expression to see before Christ translated all the living who trust in Him for their salvation... oh wait that would be a third facial expression I would get to see as I was waving goodby to you guys.
Actually I would not be able to take my eyes off of Christ to see your faces, so I guess I'll just have to guess what each one of you look like and then choose what expressions might appear on your faces. This would be me, with great joy in my heart. This would be you guys saying something like this: why didn't you tell me this was possible: hey you were an atheist when you came to this site: yea but I was still thinking there might be a God: it's not my fault you listened to me: man I wish I had listened to mom now..... and on and on it would go.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

The temptation... it was too much. What if it weren't Jesus or the Abrahamic god?

If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925 Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan RE: Atheists: If God suddenly made his presence known... would you shit bricks?

I guess I'd be shocked and feel a little silly. Then I'd hope like stink God has a sense of humour, and is not that dead cunt YHWH portrayed in the Torah.

May I ask which one of the countless gods that the religions of the world past and present believe are real we are talking about here?

I assumed it was the Abrahamic deity due to the vestigal Catholics bits in my psyche. In context of this forum, that seems reasonable to me. No I would not, regardless of whether it was a personal private experience or an objectively shared event in reality, because to-date god hasn't been properly or rationally defined. I wouldn't honestly know what on earth was attempting to make contact and humorously neither would the theists. |
