The findings suggest that damage to particular areas of the prefrontal cortex indirectly promotes religious fundamentalism by diminishing cognitive flexibility and openness—a psychology term that describes a personality trait which involves dimensions like curiosity, creativity, and open-mindedness.

And how do we help those afflicted?

It's certainly not always the cause as I'm very certain my pre-frontal cortex is dysfunctional and yet I'm not a fucking moron I'm just an impulsive motherfucker who gets easily distra---ooh look a nickle!

Can a comparison be made?

Good work?   Christianity reached around the world and killed 100 million native Americans and enslaved every survivor within reach in an effort to enrich Christians in the name of proselytizing for jesus.

Wrong, the Europeans started the killings and all of it was done in the name of money and hatred, neither are a particular value to Christianity. The greatest number of native Americans were killed by diseases, something no one would have know to happen before Europeans came to the Americas. The total number of native Americans killed by diseases, murder or military actions is so controversial that no estimates can be taken seriously but, it is well known disease killed many times more than any other action.

Anomalocaris Wrote:For 1600 years Christianity had imposed a disgracefully indolent world view upon the world by promogating a fictional afterlife that could only be attained by becoming an mental sheep for the slaughter in this, the only demonstrable, life, and had suppressed real exploration of reality on the pain of death, which it freely meted out to protect the position in society it had taken through fraud and violence.

All that crap is "only" your opinion which is worth little by what you posted about the American natives, which I am partly native American, and find those numbers you posted a ridiculous.

Anomalocaris Wrote:Christianity has habitually accepted any moral transgression and and wantonly disparaged any moral virtue in the service of its own aggrandizement, as your fellows are doing now in their stance on the orange haired baboon in the White House.

You are wrong about the bold by me, oh yes we could do better but then who couldn't. He is our president and far better than the previous pretender.

Anomalocaris Wrote:At most, Christianity offer to feed a few in return of the burial of their soul in the putrid slime of Bronze Age make-belief calculated in aggrandize the most disreputable character in human society, but only if those who are thus fed help it bury more soul to further aggrandize Christianity in the world.

Your posting on native Americans was bad and this is worse, like I said the Christian Church does more for the world needy than any country in the world, period.

You are the self grandizer who knows nothing about the service the Christian church does for the world. Now I remember why I quit posting to you in the past and now will resume that practice, so write till your heart is content I will not reply to your disgusting self anymore.

Fundamentalist Christianity has caused suffering to many LGBTQ people.  Even the Nazis built roads and infrastructure; does not one iota excuse their monstrosities.

You have no idea what fundamental Christianity is. We should treat the LGBTQ community as people just as we do other non believers. The Scriptures speak against their practices and we will continue to do so because it isn't the way God created people. And God said go out and populate the earth. The Nazis destroyed more than they built by a long shot, in the UK alone they destroyed more than they ever built and what ever they built was for the purpose of destroying what was already built. Why can't atheist get their facts correct... oh yeah they need to prove Christians are not good people who care for others, they are offended by the good we do in the world, we do not ask people when we try and help them if they are believers or not, we help them, period. The pagan communities of the past killed many more people than Christians have ever done, and you do not see Christians blaming the atheist for those past actions.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Why on earth would christians blame atheists for what some group of theists did*..except for the obvious answer of overwhelming christian stupidity?

*which they didn't, for reference..not because they didn't try, but because of a simple lack of opportunity. Christianity just so happened to be advantageously placed in time and demo to cause carnage relative to pagans..the majority of human beings having ever lived (or been killed) having done so since 1ad.

I suppose if the christians hadn't tried to exterminate pagans on a global scale they might have persisted to keep pumping their stats and they had a nice 48thousand year lead..give or take...but that's not how it panned out...and we atheists would still be over here staring at you and your fellow pagan believers blood drenched gods.

GC,

I was raised in a fundamentalist evangelical Christian church; I know all about Christian fundamentalist beliefs. As a preteen, I used to have night terrors where I would run around screaming because I was "in Hell", as I was taught by my Church that such is the eternal destiny of homosexuals, or, in my case, transgenders.

I think that Christian fundamentalism is a form of child abuse.

"I was raised in a fundamentalist evangelical Christian church; I know all about Christian fundamentalist beliefs."  My Mother would always say (when I had done something wrong, like miss some dust on my baseboards) that I hadn't prayed hard enough, and God knew about my evil heart, and if I didn't mend my ways I would be left behind when Jesus came back.  One day I came home from a lesson and nobody was there.  I ran to the neighbors house and nobody was there either.  They came home from the store 15 minutes later to find me curled up in my closet, sobbing.  I had been left behind!   My Mother was delighted.  What a wonderful lesson!
And don't even get me started on what the Christian Bible School library books said about homosexuality.
Or about the preachers who gave lectures on how all scientists were servants of the devil, or about the demonic messages hidden in rock music, or about various popular games led to demon possession, or how women who worked outside of the home would eventually murder their children.

"I think that Christian fundamentalism is a form of child abuse."  Seconded.

It's like legitimately maintaining that santa is real into your child's adulthood.  Who the fuck does that?

I mean..maybe I'm only speaking for myself here....but if my kids never figured that shit out...I;d want to have more kids because the ones I have are objective failures. Just dummies, straight up.
