This has never happened in all my life.  The first Easter (as well as the first Christmas) was celebrated in Rome, is based on astrology and has never had squat doodle to do with Jesus except as the SUN of god. But christians still act like they're trying to take back what has never been theirs.

Actually Easter is based off of the Passover celebration as Christ was captured and crucified during the Passover feast..

I don't think any christian actually believes the Dec. 25 is Jesus's actual birthday, anyone who knows anything about church history knows that it was the newly converted Roman Christians that incorporated their pagan practices into Christianity after the Jews (which included the Christian Jews) were expelled from Rome.

So what do you want Christians to do, tell the kids they'll no longer celebrate Christmas?

No, actually the standard in christian apologetics is to tell the lie that the early christians held christmas on December 25th to avoid persecution. This is demonstrably untrue

Tell you kids whatever you want. You do that anyway.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.

It just couldn't possibly be an attempt to reappropriate and christ-wash the various pagan festivals the early catholic church was trying to poach market space from - and so aptly named after a goddess of those parties.  Heavens no.  For that matter, it's not as if passover itself could have been derived from an agrarian canaanite ritual..or any such distasteful thing.

Momo and I have an easter tradition.  Our holiday is the week after easter, when the bins of caramel filled eggs go on sale 10 for a dollar.  We buy the kroger right the fuck out.  We're not even nice about it.  We muscle in and snatch em up.

Enjoy it while you can.  Haven't had one yet and may skip them altogether as part of my anti blob diet.   Sad

Well, the Jewish Jesus was crucified during Passover, but did Paul ever cough up a date for when his retconned Christian Jesus was crucified ??
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Actually Christ/Passover came first, and those 'aptly named parties.' were german and english in origin, who worship of the sun god came much later. in all other cultures/non german speaking and or non english speaking the word for easter is dervied from Greek and Latin Pascha or Pasch, for Passover.

Despite what you may think the orgins are for passover we have 5th and 6th century manuscripts that show Jesus was catured and crusified on passover, which again is the reason why Christian's celebrate 'easter' now.

That said you are right in the the english church did adopt the word easter and assimilated SOME of the pagan-ness from them, but remember this adaptation was an adaptation of what the christians were already doing.
