Oh, was that the point?  I couldn't figure it out, so I responded like you were saying OJ was a threat to everyone.

Were you hurt as a child?

@Whatevs
I think that there's a perceptual gap, even (especially?) with people who maintain that they have a gun to defend their lives today, or defend their lives against a tyrannical government.

Guns don;t defend lives.  They can defend property, sure - they can hold ground..  You risk your life and the lives of others defending your property with a gun.  Using a gun against a tyrannical government may defend "the land" that you think you live in..but..again, only at express risk to your own life and the lives of everyone around you. We make unintentional targets of people by the simple act of trying to protect them with guns.

Tyrannical governments have a habit of killing everyone in the house that the freedom fighter fired from, or came from..on principle.  It;s for this reason that they seek to avopid lists of owners..because they understand that the simple -possession- of a gun is a risk in that scenario, even if they fail to realize that simple possession is the greatest risk they face today, as well.

The irony of the whole thing, before it slips my mind..is that "in the event of tyranny" there won't exactly be a gun shortage.  You don;t need to posess a gun when tyranny comes calling as a standing army...they bring them -to- you.  Nice ones, better than the shit we have.

Keep all the guns and remove all possible ammunition Tongue

Then let all the gun nuts beat each other over the head! Simples! Solves both problems! Best of both worlds! I'll even throw in a free coupon and wank mag for yours truly.

... That's "mag" as in "magazine", and not mag as in "magazine", by the way.

Ok, this thread was meant to pose a hypothetical regarding certain types of arms in the US being made constitutionally illegal.  I truly didn't intend it to become yet another exchange on how to address gun violence.  I was simply curious to learn if people who are always going on about what they view as sacrosanct rights as enumerated in the US Constitution would feel the same way if that same Constitution became amended so as to curtail one of those rights.

But by all means, carry on.

I have several guns. I had two, until my son stored his here while he's in Japan. He'll be taking them back when he returns to the US in May. If the 2nd Amendment was revoked or read to be not a guarantee of gun ownership, I'd not violate the law, and surrender them. But I will expect to be reimbursed the fair market value.

Ha, gl with that.  The government only talks about "fair market value" when -you're- the one footing the bill.  Expect them to pay by the pound in pennies.
(that way they can turn a tidy profit when they sell them to third world despots)

Boru, I'm not surprised your thread has derailed. It's a cultural thing we can never understand.

It's like asking them to understand the special connection between sheep and velro. They will never understand! They're weird like that...

Solution, let us sell them directly to the third world despots, like a Craigslist or something. The gov can approve the buyers list and pay the shipping.
