A complication is that a bunch of these kids aren't even teens yet when they start. I think a different message probably needs to be constructed for 10-14 year olds than the "Hey, if you have sex, make sure to use a condom" that is reasonable enough for 15-17 year olds.

I'd rather teenage kids not have sex with each other at all. But if they do, I'd rather them use a condom than get pregnant and possibly have an abortion.

Yeah, you can't really stop kids from having sex if that's what they want to do. We can encourage them in the abstinence direction and explain why it's the better option and try to make a positive influence... But at the end of the day, the choice to hold off on sex has to come from within. I try not to forget what it's like to be a teenager.

Agreed.  Teens have been experimenting with sex for as long as there have been teens. Everyone knows this, so the most responsible thing to do is give them access to methods/products that helps them do it as safe as possible, if they choose to.

At ten you don't have sexual desire, its just playing and at most an enfatuation. My sister that is a psychologist explained me that at family day once. She surely has her schools about it, I guess. Even if 2 ten year olds found themselves naked in private, most surely penetration wouldn't happen.

Assuming a boy position, that development on sexuality happens a little later than girls, ie, the point we become hornydogs, so getting the stuff to work for a boy should be hard.

Abstinence-only education making a comeback under Trump

Abstinence-only education — encouraging adolescents to wait until marriage for sex — is making a comeback under President Trump.
In a marked departure from the previous administration, conservatives at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are putting an emphasis on abstinence to reduce teen pregnancy rates.



“We definitely are seeing a shift,” said Kelly Marcum, a government affairs legislative assistant at the Family Research Council in Washington, which supports abstinence-only education.
“We’re really excited to see that the administration is giving some tools back to us to keep pushing that fight.”
So far, the administration has encouraged organizations applying for Title X federal family planning funds to include in their programs a “meaningful emphasis” on “the benefits of avoiding sex” when communicating with adolescents and to use programs that don’t “normalize sexual risk behaviors.”
The Trump administration also plans to release its first report early this summer as part of a $10 million research project looking at ways to improve sex education programs, with a focus on the impact of “sexual delay.”
