I once did a medical audit in Sumter SC. The people in the office warned me not to travel off any main road outside of town. They wouldn't say why.

South Carolina (where I have lived since 1990) once had the opportunity to have it's own Disney Land. Our legislature decided it wouldn't befit the dignity of our state. I think they saw a place based on cartoon characters as competition.
