Damned atheists

RE: Damned atheists
Yeah Dylann Roof attacked a black people's church because he considered himself a white supremacist. You know, CL, there is a long tradition in US of Christians who call themselves KKK burning black people's churches?

The USSR did not perpetrate these attrocities due to atheism. They did so because they were a totalitarian government.

The first thing dictators do when they take power, is kill off or persecute members of groups they think may be threats to their power.

The USSR replaced the bad dogma of an infallible god with the bad dogma of an infallible State.

Their murderous regime was fueled by bad dogma, not atheism.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold: Shot up a school including shooting a girl in the face after she said "yes" to being asked if she believed in God.
That never happened

Quote:Myth #6: Cassie Bernall was martyred for her faith in God.
Truth: According to the eyewitness under the table with her, Cassie was shot when Eric poked his shotgun under the table and said, “Peekaboo.” The 911 tape verifies this testimony.
The martyr story arose from the testimony from another student in the library, Craig Scott (brother to victim, Rachel Scott), who recounted a conversation that took place across the room. Valeen Schnurr was the one who actually professed her faith in God, and this took place after she was shot. As she lay bleeding, she prayed, “Oh my God, don’t let me die.” Dylan turned around and asked her, “God? Do you believe in God?” Valeen said, “Yes, I believe in God.” When the killer asked why, she replied, “Because it’s how my parents raised me.”

The Soviet Union was majority Christian and No they were not officially atheist for most of it's history.

Dylann Roof was raised as a Christian

Um no CL, the rise of the Soviet Union did so because of the SUPPORT of the majority of Russian Orthodox Christianity. The USSR did not persecute religion itself, it was a totalitarian state that squashed any dissent. Putin is a product of the KGB and even as President today, he quotes God all the time.

Not to mention it was NOT an atheist state for most of it's history

No, it was never an atheist state. It has always been a Russian Orthodox Christian majority. I hate this crap of calling the "state" "atheist". No, it was authoritarian, not "atheist". Same with China, it has a majority Buddhist/Asian religions, and even Muslims and Christians live in China. There is no lack of religion in China. The "state" is not atheist in China, it is authoritarian. Same with Cuba. There is no lack of Catholics or even Catholic churches in Cuba.

Authoritarian states can also be theocracies like Iran or Saudi Arabia. The issue isn't religion or lack of, most of the world is religious, in both open and closed societies regardless. The issue is the authoritarian state squashes any and all dissent or challenge to it. Western secular states simply value protecting openness, holding power to account and allow challenge to power.
