Another reason why Christians go to church

RE: Another reason why Christians go to church
One of my youngest daughters says she thinks people go to church because "They're bored, and they don't have anything better to do." and she suggests "Maybe they should get a hobby. Or watch TV. Growups can enjoy cartoons too."
The whole tone of Church teaching in regard to woman is, to the last degree, contemptuous and degrading. - Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Do any Christians disagree?

The church holds people accountable. Most people in an individual church know each other outside the church, so they need not go to church to prove their goodness to other members. Do you have any idea what worshiping God is?

Christians join you in this community so why do you not join in on Sunday we would be glad to have you.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Remember, humans are social primates so as an organization with codified moral rules, with a hierarchical structure it suits people's primal feelings. It all started back when bands and tribes gave way to chiefdoms and states, religion developed as the principal social institution to facilitate cooperation.
So in essence going to temples comes down to: "If I see you every week in church, mosque, or synagogue, consistently participating in our religion's activities and following the prescribed rituals and customs, it is a positive indication that you can be trusted and you are a reliable member of our group that I can count on."
The divinity evolved along a parallel track. Animistic spirits gave way to anthropomorphic and polytheistic gods, and in the eastern Mediterranean the anthropomorphic gods of the pastoral people there lost out to the monotheistic God of Abraham.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I suspect that the most basic, fundamental reason Christians go to church is that they're afraid not to.

And especially old people. I knew few old women that toward the end of their lives they were obsessed with going to church every day and even calling the priest to apologize when they couldn't make it for that day.

They see the toll booth up ahead more clearly than those farther behind them on the road.  Also, old women....super duper lonely.  Takes all of five minutes at a geriatric filing cabinet to crack that nut.

  Wink

(there are lots of old religious women in my family...I;ve found that my little brood keeps them out of church nicely. There;s more people in my living room, they all like their grannies and their aunties and their nanas.....church usually gets called off whenever we're around)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. RE: Another reason why Christians go to church
Well, Alexmahone, you may have waited some time but we finally have an answer why Christians go to Church/ mass:

Quote:The victim’s mother was missing mass and he was told by “a Sunday school teacher that missing mass could make you die. Concerned for his mother who was missing mass, the victim went down to the church to plead the case of his mother” to Father Guth:

Guth asked the victim whether he believed that Jesus suffered and died for our sins, in response to which the victim said “of course” as that is what he was taught. Guth talked about penance and having crosses to bear and asked the victim if he would do anything to save his mother. Guth then spoke of secret confessions and penance before reaching over and unbuckling the victim’s pants, pulling them down, fondling him, and sticking his finger up the victim’s anus.

The priest told the victim that both he and his mother would burn in Hell if he ever told anyone about the “secret penance.”

Yup. Those little crackers taste great with Cheez-Whiz on them. Bullshit

I only go to a church when there is a marryin' or a buryin', and only for the people involved. Not for any putative god.
