I didn’t read the thread so maybe I’m missing some important context? This makes zero sense to me. You could burn every copy of a book and it’s meaning, if it had any, would still exist.

I don;t think you;re missing anything.  More accurately, I think that Neo has utterly missed the context of meaning itself. It doesn;t come from books, magic or otherwise. That;s just transmission, translation. If meaning truly were that fragile, there wouldn;t be any left in the world.

What else can you expect from a nihilist, though?

I guess that means Christians worship the Bible itself, and if all copies of it were destroyed, Christianity would disappear too.

I actually agree with this conclusion (for different reasons), except I'd say that it would require all memory and record of the books to be gone, rather than just the books themselves.

RE: Open discussion of the Christian Why We're Here thread
All books from God contain all knowledge regarding everything humans benefit from in guidance towards God.

But it's impossible to see it first time. And it's impossible to see it if we rely on people who name themselves with the name of God but are not set by God like Seth was after Adam.

There is a book that all revelations, and all scripture, is based upon, and that is whence the Angels descend from and reveal the words in stages showing it connects to the original high book of light. The Torah from why I see still iterates well enough to see the truth.

It just mixed with fabrications and falsehood, but still has in it somehow miraculously made it through, the true guidance.

Never go to a book to accept all it says, go to a book to reflect. That same is true of the Quran. When people go to it to blindly follow it, we get terrorists and literalists telling us God has feet and hands and what not.

Gee, what a send off, in claiming that the why were here thread demonstrated that christians can be civil (thread contents to the contrary), time is taken out for potshots and incivility.   Rolleyes

I really like Neo's last post on the debate thread.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Not bad but I prefer your own willingness to accept non-Christian adults on their own terms better.  In a community like this, for anyone to tell another that I can never accept the choice you've made is the height of arrogance.  I get that most Christians who take their marching orders from a long dead book feel compelled to foist their beliefs on everyone else.  Regrettable, but I don't blame them for lying in the bed they've made.  But thank you, no thank you should be the end of it.  Anything beyond that is indicative of self importance unchecked and untenable for anyone who doesn't share those beliefs who has even a shred of self respect.

I've often said I am not on a mission to spread the good news that religion is shot through with errors and entirely unnecessary, although I believe both of those things.  Many Christians need an attitude adjustment in order to become good neighbors in the wider community.  Thank you Cath-y for showing the way.
