Moving forward..I;d think it would be difficult to use those events against the great satan, since we stepped in on the behalf of those people..and then, mostly due to their angst and frustration..started taking sporadic roadside bombs from both sides. Ah, the life of a peacekeeper.

I highly recommend a book to you, "Christianity is Not Great" an anthology edited by John Loftus. Chapter 7 is entitled: They Will Make Good Slaves And Christians - Christianity, Colonialism and the Destruction of Indigenous Peoples.
