The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I've heard that making adultery a sin was an easy way of universalizing sin for the Israelites, and since the people in charge were men, it became easy for them to shift the blame onto women. Then again, I don't remember where it was I read it, but I think the source also made remarks about this being in contrast with the Egyptians not even having a word for virginity in their language, and given that A) this appears to be drawing a link to the captivity in Egypt, which there is no objective evidence for, and B) there's a reason the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis hasn't moved beyond being a mere hypothesis in the past 90 years, this may not be totally accurate.

Meh, I was taught many things in my faith. "Hating the female body" wasn't one of them. Lots of paintings of naked people (men and women) at the Vatican.

Maybe it doesn’t happen intentionally, but that’s how shit like this usually ends up: women get screwed, and not in the ways they’d like to be screwed. And it’s often more literal than any sane person should want.
