Quote:For the long followers of Trump’s career, however, none of these incendiary remarks are especially surprising. Trump has a long record as a provocateur on matters of race and ethnicity.

It starts in 1973, when the United States Department of Justice went to court with a discrimination complaint against the Trump family business, which rented apartments across Brooklyn and Queens. Coming from the administration of Richard Nixon, who was hardly a civil rights agitator, the complaint was based on an investigation that found four different Trump employees confirming that applicants for leases were screened by race. One rental agent said Trump’s father had told him not to rent to blacks and that he actually wanted to reduce the number of African Americans in his buildings. Three doormen said they had been instructed to deflect blacks who came to Trump buildings to apply for apartments.

Though just 26 years old at the time, Donald Trump was already president of the Trump Organization. Rather than work with the government to bring the company into compliance with the law, as the New York apartment king Sam LeFrak had done, Trump retained one of the most notorious lawyers in the country, Roy Cohn, and commence an all-out legal war. Cohn, who had been Joe McCarthy’s chief inquisitor during the senator’s witch hunt for communists in the government, filed a $410 million lawsuit against the federal government and smeared the justice department attorneys with terms such as “storm troopers” and “Gestapo.” Trump complained in the press of “reverse discrimination” and alleged a “nationwide drive” to force landlords to “rent to welfare recipients.”

In the early 1970s, “African American” and “welfare” were used interchangeably and it was a well-established hallmark of dog-whistle politics, which allowed speakers to appeal to racist beliefs without using openly racist terms. More whites used welfare assistance than blacks, but welfare was regarded by some as a special benefit for minorities. In 1980 the coded language that matched welfare with undeserving minorities was revealed as Ronald Reagan spoke of “welfare queens” and “strapping young bucks.”

Trump’s countersuit in the fair housing case brought against his company was dismissed by a judge who considered it a “waste of paper.” The Trump organization eventually accommodated the feds, agreeing to a protocol intended to address the mistakes of the past.

Accept there is no contradiction

1. Voting someone bad just to beat Trump is stupid

2. Yes if Trump wins it still sucks because he sucks but that not a reason to vote for a bad candidate

Quote:You generally refuse to take a stand.

That is just false

Again false

Which has nothing to do with the rest of this statement .And oh no he refuse to vote for candidate he does not believe in the horror  Dodgy

You don't need to defend it to me. I like that you guys get to that point - not voting, or voting third party.

Someone here recently said that Democrats fall in love, while Republicans fall in line. Between that phenomena and clashing intersectionality, the far left is self destructing.

There would have to -be- a far left for the far left to be self destructing, Alpha.  This is america...for better or for worse....there is not.

Anyhoo, the principles I stand for are my own.  I don't owe any party my fealty, lol.  I don't know why this bothers you so much, as an overt partisan.  You'd think a person would appreciate common ground between us...the disposition of personal property and primacy of free markets.  The possession of firearms.  My general redneckedness and joedom.  That sort of shit.  Obviously, I don't have sufficient representation to fall in love or in line with.  I can definitely see the benefit to falling in line when it comes to adroitly gaming the political system..but perhaps why the reps are better at this than the dems boils down to those fundamental characteristics of the parties as they've shaped themselves?

Jahwol!
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

As I noted, it doesn't bother me - I like it.

You can say you don't have a side all you like. The fact is that here, you line up with a particular side 90+ percent of the time, and it's not my side. So by all means - don't vote!  Smile

I'm not defending it i pointing out it's not contradictory . And once again your politics is extremely cynical

No it's not it's changing but it's not self destructing and falling in line is an unprincipled way of running a political movement .

He doesn't

So agreeing with a position more often does not mean he's on a side and here comes the tired victory at any cost mentality a sad way to run ones politics.

Alpha's position is pure political cynicism and worst still a farce of democracy

See..that's a shame.  If anyone needs all the help and votes it can get going forward, it would be the republican ticket.  The dems don't need me to establish a majority voting block. Reps do..I'm their target fucking voter, lol.

Maybe that should tell you something about "your side"....?  Or....you can imagine far left antifa radicals hiding under every bed and waiving away the fact that you recieve constant criticism of your party approved positions that you are incapable of defending by an independent.

Considering the WH, house, senate, and states...no, the dems need more help than the republicans. Or are you making another prediction that really isn't a prediction?

Are you constantly criticizing both parties fairly equally?

If so, that says something about both parties.

If not, then your claim to being independent is bullshit.

So in your view:

- understanding that the reality of a two-party system is that you're sometimes left choosing between the lesser of two evils, and making such choice, is cynycism and a farce of democracy.

- not voting is proper exercise of democracy.

Got it!
