Faulty premise.  The hierarchy thinks the pedo-priests are the real victims.

You know, that's really pretty true.  Sad.  But true.

Yeah, I'm glad Cath-y is moved to do it regardless.  But it really does seem most of their thoughts and prayers are for their continued autonomy and ability to police themselves as they see fit.

I'm sorry but here efforts seem counter to actual justice

It’s hard not to criticize an effort which amounts to reaffirming a criminal organization to be above both the law and the beseecher, but begging it to be less inconsiderate in the future.    Not every step that appears to be in the right direction actually reduces the distance to the goal compared to standing still.

More like the "shit on catholics and their intentional ineffectiveness" thread.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. You act like there's anything they can actually do. Even a mass exodus from the Church is unlikely to change anything; the Church has suffered a loss in moral credibility it hasn't seen since the Reformation and there has been bugger-all in the way of change. The Church has done whatever the fuck it wants for centuries, and, even if it wasn't a sovereign nation of its own, it's surrounded on all sides by a nation it still has by the balls, and a cartoonishly-corrupt one at that.

They could walk out. They won't...but they could....and isn't that a big part of the problem? Tax payers and parishioners pay for these coverrups. We're subsidizing kiddie fuckers under the guise of "charity" or..for the religious, "piety".

Even if their mass exodus won’t produce immediate effects it must still be, to any moral person with an ounce of dignity and independent self-respect, vastly preferable to beseeching like an even lower level of worm those same parasites, and thus helping to reaffirm, in the minds of the parasites, that the parasites are above men and law, and answerable to neither society, their victims nor laws.

If politicians don’t have the spine to subordinate a criminal organization like RCC to laws and secular consequences commensurate with its crimes, then it is contingent upon the society to crush RCC’s financial and social capital needed for operating above the law.

Born and raised and baptised a RCC. Far as I am concerned, Pope Jonathan Price can go die in a fire for all I care about the cross dressing perverts.

And I'm saying that I don't expect the society themselves to crush the social capital (let alone financial) to a degree that affects the church that it does something.

I feel like this would be a place to show the scene in Batman Begins where Ras Al-Ghul tries to convince Batman that Gotham is beyond saving, because it fits my view of the Church and attempts by laymen to reform it, but even if the fact that Batman still holds his ground didn't undermine it (and at least the League is defeated before they can destroy Gotham), I can't actually find that scene on Youtube.
