The base, yes. But if we are also at the same time accepting, by implication of the OP that we should not lump them in altogether, that is making my point.
We should not bother with the too far gone, no. I agree. But there are those who for whatever reason, were sold on him whom are moderates and independents.
My point is, even in taking on the "too far gone" you aren't doing it for them. But again, putting them on display so that those in the middle or on the fence see him as too toxic to continue to support.
